We've had a pretty good list so far, steady at these options: Sebastian, Grayson, Sawyer, Jaxon, Lincoln, Keegan, Kaleb and Ashton. (I love Finn, DH does not)
Came across these (some are very different, I know, they're just ideas). Any thoughts? Should we add any to our list?
Maguire
Conall
Kyllian
Dashiell (Dash)
Hudson
Maverick
Malachy
Farrell
Graydon
Beckett
Marshall
Connelly
Rowan
Phoenix
Austen
Harrison
Lennon
Kylan
Jasper
Ezra

Ok - well as the MOM of a Sebastian - that's definitely my favorite!!!
hey nrnotes!
Do you have any insight as to how popular Sebastian is these days? It's always been at the absolute top of all my lists (prob. is, I like it a little better than DH). Anyway, I've loved the name since I was a child, but I've been wondering lately if it's getting popular. Any thoughts?
unc_annie,
Can I just say that you have amazing insight and I really appriciate the reply!!!!!!!!!
I like Keegan from your original list the best
You're very welcome. I'm glad I could help!
Also, I saw you were asking about the popularity of Sebastian. Hopefully you'll get some inside info from someone who already has a son named Sebastian, but here is some info based on the numbers at the Social Security Administration.
Sebastian has been growing slowly and steadily over the last few decades. In the 70s, it was quite rare, hovering around 600-700 on the list of the top 1000 names. In the 80s it rose to the 500s and then the 400s. In the 90s, it started growing by leaps and bounds. In 1989 it was ranked #412. Just two years later, it was at #261. It continued to rise quickly over that decade and in 2000, it broke into the top 100, weighing in at #81. Since then, it has held steady, knocking around between 76 and 96. From year to year, it goes up or down, but it stays right in that range.
My prediction is that it won't reach much higher than where it is now. The real growth spurt is over. It may climb up to the 50s or it may fall back down to the low 100s. But I don't see it entering the top 20. Also you are lucky because it doesn't fit into any of the "trendy" groupings that make individual names SEEM so much popular than they really are. For example, Hayden is ranked very close to Hayden (at #72 this year). But because everywhere you turn there is an Aiden or a Caden or Jaden, Hayden feels FAR more popular than Sebastian. Similarly, K and C names are very popular right now. So while Cole is very close in popularity to Sebastian, it FEELS more popular because of similar names like Cade, Caden, Colt, Collin, Connor, etc.
Such a good point! And thanks for looking that up. You're awesome!!!!
Now... how to choose!? We didn't have a name picked before my son was born, I feel it might that way again. We took our top 3 names to the hospital and chose when we met him. I see that in our future for baby #2 also. But how will I get it down to 2 or 3?!?! I think Sebastian will be one of those though. Now the others??? ahhhhhhhhh
It helps to talk it out though!!
No problem at all -- I love analyzing the stats. I really adore Sebastian. I'm so glad that it's one of your forerunners. I love the idea of going to the hospital with a short list of names and then seeing which name feels right.
Just for fun...if I were going to narrow down your list to three, this is what it would look like:
Sebastian
Beckett
Conall
Obviously, there are a lot of other names on your list that I like (and even love) but I eliminated all the names that were too similar to Maddox (like Maguire and Malachy) and the names that didn't seem to go with Maddox at all (like Jasper). And then I went for the ones that seemed the most interesting and refreshing, while still working well with Maddox. I love the surnamey Gaelic feel of both Beckett and Conall, so I thought they'd be the perfect complement to Maddox.
Good luck choosing your top three!
