We have a new baby BOY who finally has a name:
Aaron Duncan Van L.
He was born Friday April 11 at 5:58 p.m. and weighed 8 lbs., 13 oz. (a pound more than Kaden, and pound and a half more than Logan!) and 21 inches long.
DH actually wrote Ashlyn, Aaron, and Duncan on the dry erase board in the delivery room so we could think about it. We finally decided on Aaron for his first name because it fits our criteria better – we don’t know anyone with that name, it sounds great, and it ends in “n” like our other boys’. Plus I think the double a is cool. I also wasn’t sure I’d be comfortable calling him Duncan since I never really liked being called by my last name back in school. We picked his middle name a couple days later – it was between Duncan and Clay (kind of a take-off on DH’s grandpa’s nn, Flay). I still love the name, and with his dark hair and eyes, he looks like my side. So Aaron Duncan it is.
The delivery itself did not go as planned. The first part was great – we got to our induction appointment around 8 a.m., got the drugs started by 9, and spent the morning watching movies while trying different labor positions – my favorite was the birth ball. Never got to do that one before. They broke my water around noon and everything was progressing nicely except that the baby was not coming down. My dr. did an ultrasound and discovered he was presenting chin first. Dr. told us he could be born that way but it would be difficult and the baby would look like he’d been in a boxing match he’d have so much bruising and swelling. He did turn a little while we were waiting for the operating room so we tried about 4-5 pushes. He wasn’t doing well so we went ahead with the c-section. I know it was best for him because his face was still pretty swollen but I really missed getting to hold him right away and not even being able to see him or DH in the first hour of his life. I’m also not enjoying the recovery and not being able to do anything – no taking him for a walk, no getting into/out of bed without crying in pain, etc. I did like the time the 3 of us spent in the hospital though. We had daily visits from the big boys and my parents but other than that it was like a babymoon.
Thanks so much to all of you for those great name suggestions and for co-miserating with me over DH changing our mind so often! :)
