I love the nickname Gabby for a little girl but I really don't like Gabriella or Gabrielle. Its not that I don't like the name itself, it that I thing its kind of weird to have a strongly hispanic name when you/your parents aren't at all hispanic. Not to mention my(well soon to be) last name is very noticebly dutch. Any suggestions?

I don't think of Gabriella as exclusively Hispanic. And isn't Gabrielle French? I don't think either name has too strong an ethnic flavor to be used with a different ethnicity surname. :)

Gabrielle: Diminutive of Gabriella: Woman of God. An Italian form of the Hebrew name Gabriel.

Can't think of any other direct nicknames...

I wouldn't "chance" calling a girl Gabby. I know a little girl named Gabby (Gabrielle) and she is THE biggest yapper and spoiled brat you'd ever want to be around. Anytime anyone hears that her name is Gabby, they say, "how appropriate!" If you end up with a chatty girl, it could be a social bomb name.

I think it would be perfectly acceptible to just name her Gabby. It's one of those unique things parents do, just name it the nickname and forget about the long. I have a friend who is Jessi, but it is not short for Jessica, it's just Jessi. I like that, so I think you should just go with Gabby. =)

I agree with the last person. If you really like the name Gabby as a nn. Go with it as a first name. I think that it's very cute.

Hi there

I agree with the last 2 messages. Just go with Gabby, rather than the longer name. Personally I prefer shorter names. If I have a boy I am considering calling him Drew. Dont like Andrew but love Drew. Good luck.

Hmmm...I have to disagree with the last few posts. For names like Gabby that are predominately used as nicknames, I think you do your child a disservice to use that as the given name. As she ages and has professional and other opportunities, it would be nice to give her a name that has options--even if she chooses to use Gabby 99% of the time, she can use Gabrielle(a)for resumes or her job or just if she wants something more substantial.

Also, for whatever it's worth, I think Gabrielle is used enough that it doesn't feel tied to its heritage. (I personally think of Gabrielle as being very European). I think that Gabrielle is beautiful and Gabby is really, really cute!

Good luck!!

Here's some names I found that contain "Gab". I can't say that I like any of them very much but maybe you'll find something you like. If you can't find a name on this list then I would just name her Gabby or Gabrielle(a)because I don't think ther are many alternatives besides these:

Gabina
Gablyn
Gaborella
Gabrialyn
Gabrianna
Gabrianne
Gabriellery
Gabriellyn
Gabrietta
Gabrilina
Gabrilyn
Gabryssa
Ingabelle

Let us know how it goes!!!!
