I love Gemma, and I think it's definitely the way to go if you want something more unusual. In the SSA's top 1000, there are multiple spellings of Lily, Lillian, and Liliana. Gemma hasn't made an appearance on the list in 100 years.

I agree, Gemma is the way to go here. They are both lovely choices but Gemma is the best option to not have a super popular name, Lily is already #33 and Lillian is #36, and both are still on the rise. Gemma doesn't even make the top 1000.

I voted for Gemma since you want something less popular. How about: Rose or Ivy?

Good luck,
Brooke

I prefer Gemma anyways, but even more so since you don't want something popular. Lily is getting BIG!

My vote went to Gemma, especially since it is technically MUCH less popular (not even in the top 1000, while Lily alone is in the 30s ... and that's without counting all the Lillians, Lilianas, Elizabeths, etc. that use it as a nn). However, you should bear in mind that Gemma will probably *feel* a bit more common than it actually is, thanks to uber-popular Emma being only one letter/sound off.

I just replied to your other Gemma thread, and while I don't care for Gemma Lily as a combo, I DO quite like Jemima Lily, nn Jemma. I only mention it because it allows you to use BOTH names on your short list and a less-popular, interesting full name (which seems like something you might prefer). Just a thought! ;)

I love both names, but if you want something not so popular I'd go with Gemma. Lily is becoming really popular!

Another idea: How about Daisy...I love Daisy!
