Getting slack from almost everyone!!

My husband and I are expecting our first child (it's a girl!) in April. She will be the 6th grandchild on my side and the second on his side. Since I was a little girl I have always liked the name Fiona and now my husband and I want to use it for our baby!
Well, it seems that almost everyone we encounter thinks it's ridiculous. My grandmother can't even remember it and we keep getting comments like "are you sure you won't reconsider?".

How much advice do you take and when do you draw the line and say to heck with everyone's opinion?

Is Fiona that obscure and different?

Thanks for the feedback in advance!

You would think from a family with not so traditional names for grandkids they wouldn't be so harsh!
We have Levi, Landon, Easton already.......what's one more uncommon name?

We got some slack, too, and my mom gave me some advice that has helped a LOT. Basically, I just don't bring names up as a topic of discussion any more. If other people bring it up, something like, "I can see that this is very important to you, and I'll think about what you've said" (followed by a change of subject) works really well.

At the end of the day, this is your child, and you should choose the name you like best. Other people, even relatives, don't get to make this decision.

My experience with this is ... people will learn to love the name once they see her beautiful face and personality. I did not like my nieces name, Alexie at first but now I love it because she is sooo cute and it makes me love the name.

I say to heck with your family - if you and your hubby love the name, then I would use if for sure. If your family asks again if you have changed your mind or suggests other names I would tell them that you appreciate their opinion, but will announce your final decision when the baby is born. Im sure they will love it when it is all said and done.

As for the name, Fiona it is a nice Irish name and OK to me. I dont love it and I dont hate it. I do know that alot of people like it - so it must not be too horrible.
