Hopefully (you) Ginger isn't tired of me as well!

It's me, Karen edd Jan 10 with DS. My dd's are Lillian Ariana and Naomi Rochelle. If this had been a girl we were going with Edith Miriam.

Sooooo my favorite name of all time that I've loved for probably 10 or more years is Simon and it goes wonderfully imo with Oliver -- actually in DH's opinion too. But he's Still not sure if this is the right name. Simon Oliver....

Sooo I offered Owen and it's a maybe for him. I like Owen Reid the best.

DH would still like the grandfather's names in it somehow. Grandfathers are John Robert and Gary Lee. None of those are names we interested in as a first name (in their current form). We would want alternate versions of the names if we use them -- such as Ian/Owen for John and Garrett for Gary.

Do you have any suggestions for us? We like Biblical, basically traditional with good meaning names, not too popular (love it to not be in top 100 and not climbing). Definitely Male names, no unisex. And if there's something that would honor both grandfathers and be some or all of that without having a double mn, that would be great.

Ideas we've tossed around:
Simon Oliver (no grandfather connection)
Owen Garrett
Owen Reid
Ian Garrett/ or Ian ? but Ian is so close to Lillian because of that I just don't know if it'd be a good first name for us. Any opinion on that? (I think I'll do a poll to see what everyone thinks)

Do you have any thoughts at all for me? New names, old names thought of differently, a name that could honor both grandfathers without lengthy explanation? I'm not to into the grandfather stuff so I guess that makes it harder, because if I cared I would try harder to make it work.

Just wish I knew what his name was!
Thanks for reading all of this and for any help you can give!

I love Owen Garrett for you, I think it flows well and I like the family connection. If you really love Simon, why not use Simon Garrett?

Thanks, Michelle
Simon Garrett is ok in my mind. I think because then that would only honor DH's dad and not mine things would get awkward. That's why DH wanted/wants Simon Garrett Ian. But it just seems to be too much to me.

Owen Garrett might be the one???

I agree that Ian as a fn is too close to Lillian.

Let's see if I can come up with anything you like.

Some names to name after John - Johnson, Jonathan, Jonah, Jonas, Sinjon, Johann, Johnavon

I found it a little tough to find something similar or an alternative to Robert, although Robert is nice to use as a mn.

For Gary - Garron, Garrick, Garrison, Garyson, Garvey, Garridan, Gareth, Perry

For Lee - Leith, Leif, Leary, Leander, Leighton, Raleigh, Wiley, Riley, Ackley, Adley, Bentley, Bromley, Conley, Finley, Hanley, Huntley, Kenley, Morley, Oakley, Penley, Radley, Ridley, Wesley

I hope there's something you like. I'll let you pair them up. I do like Leary and that could almost be a combination of Lee and Gary. :)

Terra.

I really like Simon and Oliver, but I have to say that I LOVE Owen Reid! Actually that's my DS's name, but we spell is REED, b/c it's DH's mom's maiden name! It suits him, and we've had a lot of compliments on our choice of names!

Hello Karen!

Tired of you? Never. Quite frankly, baby naming is my favorite hobby and I'm quite indulgent!

You are trying to address many issues at once in one baby name. I remember the days keenly. I thought naming my own babies would be a breeze. Instead, it tends to snowball if you let it keep rolling on closer to the due date! LOL

So, I'm breaking your concerns/thoughs into parts, starting with the most important-

1. Please ask yourself--- Will you be happy with anything but Simon? If you've loved it for ten or more years, that is significant. What's funny is that most people DO NOT end up going with the name they've coveted. Most women have treasured certain names for years. But for some reason, when we're in the pg state, we second-guess ourselves...or dads second-guess us. I've seen many moms who are thrilled with the "new" name they discover/compromise on

Hi,
I like some of your double mns better than what we had thought of. I will have to think it over.

Thanks!

Lots of ideas, thank you. I will have to see if anything stands out to me.

Owen Reed is a great name. I don't know if it's for us though.

Thanks!

Hi Ginger,
Thank you so much! This naming thing has gotten crazy. It was much easier with the girls. lol

Let's see... will I be happy with anything but Simon? I'm trying to learn that maybe I will be. With dd#2 ALL I could think of was Audrey -- nice name, pretty popular, dh didn't like it. And then we came to Naomi, seriuosly never really crossed my mind, but we loved the meaning and it's a great name for her. So, I think I will live if he's not a Simon (lol), but ...?

I think you hit a key with #2. I think it is important to dh to name after the grandpas (specifically) something I hadn't known until we found out we're having a boy. And no I don't think I could name after only one grandpa, because we've both tried, me saying something for my dad and he something for his and neither of us are satisfied with that sooo both it is.

If we weren't honoring anyone it would be Simon Oliver, and I think dh agrees, but that's not what we're trying for.

The popularity of Owen makes me nervous or whatever, you know what I'm saying. I really don't want there to be x number of the same name in his class.

Gareth -- maybe
Garner -- maybe
Grant -- actually on my list, sounds kind of funny with ln
Joel Simon -- I love Joel, dh does not. Also Dh's name start with J and I *Think* we are avoiding doubling fn letters in our immediate family (but who knows dh may change his mind)
Garrett -- a good choice

Janson is nms. And again Dh is Jared so very close

I agree, Ian is too close, though sil says it's her fav for us. Owen Reid is just something I like. The only connection is Reid's meaning red and he may be a red head (which dh's grandfather of baby was)

My maiden name doesn't work, and I think dh wants something very connected to grandFathers

**************************************************************************************
What are your thoughts on double mns? I think it's frivolous and could get to be a hassle or the "extra" name will get lost in the shuffle, but that's where we get to every time.

What combos do you see of

Ian/Owen/Jonah/John (other "John" names), Garrett/Grant/Garrick (etc) and then maybe Reid (I like this if he's a red-head,) Simon, Oliver.

Please share all combos that you think are relevant (even if it's only swapping two names), sound good, etc adding any other names you think would go. I'd love to see what orders you think would work.

I feel like Oliver may be a good first name choice for us, but I just can't get a hold on it -- but that's how I felt about the name Naomi so I'm thinking maybe.....?? BTW dh really likes the meanings of Oliver. It's another name I've loved. It would've been DD#2's name had she been a boy.

Ahhhh!!! Thanks for all your help.

One side note. If BIL wasn't Travis we both love the name (dd#1 would've been Travis had she been a boy, and then sil married a Travis two years ago.)

Thanks,
Karen
