Hey Ladies,
DH and I are going to start TTC in January, and we have gone over and over lots of names, but a few stick out more than others. I just want to run the rest by you and see if you have any opinion. Now, to me, the meaning of the name is just as important as the name sounds. I've passed up a few names where I liked the sound of the name, but I didn't like the meaning. Also, I'm black, and my husband is white, and I was thinking of a first and middle name that was multicultural to reflect our children's multicultural background.
So my favorites are:
Girl #1: Anaya Dawn (African: Look Up to God, Greek: Divine, Sunrise)
Girl #2: Adellle Ayanna (German: Noble, Kind; African: Beautiful Flower)
Boy #1: Christian Jean (English: Of the Christian Faith, Celtic/Gaelic: God is Gracious) and CJ for short
Boy #2: Jayden Elliot

First of all, I love Jayden Elliot. The meaning is great; and it has the multi-cultural ring to it, but still flows well. In my opinion, look no further for your son's name. There is only one setback- Jayden is really growing in popularity. This may not bother you though. If you wanted to incorporate your dh's faves- Jayden Christopher or Elliot Christopher might work. I also like Leif & Christian---but they just don't have the ring of Jayden Elliot.
Girls- Here's where we're similar- names I love- Karina, Halle, Ariana, Adanna, Nadia & Annika (this spelling b/c I like it pronounced ANN-ICK-UH). Of the combos you listed, I think Anaya Dawn is lovely. Sorry for your dh, but Jessica Danielle just doesn't have the flair of the others-
Here are some combos I came up with- Karina Halle, Halle Ariana, Nadia Anne, Adanna Halle, Karina Danielle, Halle Jessica, Annika Dawn---Hope this helps, good luck on TTC, and let us know if you need more help! Ginger
Wow! Thanks! I love the combinations you've suggested! I'm gonna cut & paste those into my baby names document.
DH vetoed "Anaya Dawn or Anaya Jean" last night and doesn't like Anaya, because of the way it sounds to him. He said that if I get "Anaya Dawn" then he gets "Christopher Robin", and there is no way in a very hot place that I am gonna name my child "Christopher Robin". Can you imagine the taunts? I love Jayden Elliot a lot as well. DH doesn't like it so much.
I'm with you Jessica Danielle is way too freakin' much for me. And it's too prissy.
Another concern is that the child will have a very long, hyphenated name, so the first and middle name really need to be short and succinct, which is why I'm not so hot on names like "Christopher", but I think my DH is set on naming his son that in some fashion.
Thanks for the tips. So I don't overwhelm DH with baby names on a nightly basis (we're not even TTC yet), he says I'm only allowed to get input on 2 or 3 baby names a night so I don't drive him crazy. LOL! MEN! I'm gonna run some of these by him tonight.
Thanks!

Also, you could spice Jessica up as Jesslyn or Jessamyn--- Of course, those may be too long with the last name.
Here's one more idea I had, because of the long last name- you could do two shorter names that sound like one name- Rae Anna, Anna Leah, Anna Bella, Jess Anna, Jess Anne, etc.
I'm glad I could be of help! Keep us posted! Ginger
Girl #2: Adellle Ayanna - too many ls in Adele, on or two ls is enough. I don't particularly like first & second to start with same initial.
-
Boy #1: Christian Jean - christian is OK. Jean is NOT OK for a boy except in some European countries. how about John or Jonathan here.
CJ for short
Boy #2: Jayden Elliot - nice combo.
Boy Name: Christopher Robin - again Christopher is great (I like it better than Christian, but Robin is not a good boy name anymore, and the Winnie the Pooh reference is just too much, could bring teasing. How about Christopher Robert.
Girl Name: Jessica Danielle - nice combo.
of your block list I like Ariana, Karina, Cianna, Halle and Anika the best. I dislike Shandi and Juliana, the others just fall into an OK category for me.
of your boys block list I like Jaden and Jeremy the best, the others are not my style at all.
good luck choosing
Too funny that he likes Christopher Robin. I know a little boy with this name. He was also named after the Winnie-the-Pooh kid. I thought it was a little strange to tell you the truth. The boy's Mom was obsessed with Winnie-the-Pooh. I'm sure he had Winnie-the-Pooh everything. (Room, clothes, toys etc) The child will be plagued by the name his whole life.
But on the other hand I think that mostly because of how his Mom emphasizes her zeal for all things Pooh. People don't use middle names much but I'm still with you there is no way I would use that name. He'll hear snickers everytime his fn-mn combo is mentioned. There are so many other lovely options in your list. Surely you can find one you both love that isn't already a famous combination.
Anaya, Adelle, Hanna, Anika, Halle, and Karina.
Christian, Kristian, and Leif.
I knew a Swedish boy named Krister and have always loved that name!
I am just like you with the meanings of names! My sons are Caleb Matthew (in the Bible, Caleb has a "different spirit" and is the faithful spy...) and Zion Robert (Zion for Mt. Zion but also because it is a term for heaven... and Robert for his papa!)
Good luck in your TTC journey!

Hey Sweetie,
You know how you just love a name until you find someone with that same name who is not as, well, loveable. Honestly, that's how I feel about any name with "Rob" in it, and that's the biggest point of contention.
Originally, DH was cool because he said I could name our child if it was a girl, and he would name it if it was a boy, but I just can't let him name the child "Robin", "Robert", "Rob", or "Bob". Just wouldn't feel right to me.
Meanwhile, he says that he doesn't want a daughter with an "eeeeee" or "ehhh" or "aaaaa" or "ayyy" sound in her first name, which effectively eliminates about 99% of my list. Now what kind of sense does that make?
MEN!
I do like the name Robert, though, it's just not for me.
smaudking :o)
Whoops! I forgot to respond to the second half of your post. LOL!
I absolutely love the idea of the two short names! That's a great idea! I'm gonna come up with
