Wondering what you think of the name Harper for a girl?

The middle name will be Kennedy.

Harper isn't my personal style, but I don't hate it and I love strong names on girls. That said, I do think that when paired with Kennedy as a mn, it is a bit TOO strong and masculine. Something like Harper Annabel, Harper Thea, Harper Gemma, Harper Celeste, or Harper June would work better. You may also like Ashby, Arden, Iris, Aurora nn Rory, or Hadley.

They're nms but Harper isn't too bad. :) I would like it more paired with a less masculine mn though.

I don't like it much. I'm not so sure about the boy names for a girl, especially with a masculine mn as well. Kennedy is not bad since it has been used for a lot of girls recently, but I just don't like Harper that much.

I like Harper, but agree with PP that it would be better with a more feminine mn. My general thoughts on traditional boy names for girls are that 1) they should be used with a feminine mn so that it's clear from the full name that she's a girl and 2) you should think through how they will work with a boy's name (existing or for the future). When I see a sib set and can't tell which child is which gender I always feel badly for the kids--so many corrections, assumptions, etc. Just my two cents...

I think if you wanted Harper as the fn, you should use a more feminine mn. I would see the name Harper Kennedy, and think it's a boy.

I agree with PPs that Harper and Kennedy are both unisex names but I know of several girls with one of those names and I haven't heard of any boys named that, so I would assume Harper Kennedy was female.

I really like Harper for a girl.

I personally like feminine names on girls so I don't care for Harper Kennedy.

I love Harper. I love Kennedy. I think either one calls for being paired with a softer name.

Best wishes!

not the least bit feminine - pretty soon there will be kids with names which identify them by gender

to me Harper is just a last name. I wouldn't even use it on a boy
