I posted on the other baby name board but thought I'd try this one out.Last night on the Bachelor I heard this name one of the girls had McCarten I like the spelling McKartyn? It's not a made up name it's actually Irish. I also have a DD Sabryn Jade and DS Easton Zachary. I also heard another name on one of these 2 borads that I like Emberlyn? Just curious....

I guess I could live with McCarten, if it were a family name or if I were Irish (so long as my last name were not a Mc- name, as well), but I strongly dislike McKartyn because it has that uber-trendy, made-up look to it, like Madysyn or McKayla.

I don't like McKartyn, it seems very awkward and consonant-heavy to me and I would think just by looking that you were trying to be trendy and fit in (all the Mc- names and K names) but "unique" at the same time.

Emberlyn is OK for me, but I like just Ember even more. Embry and Ellery have a similar quality, IMO.

McCarten doesn't do anything for me--makes me think of a carton at McDonald's. I really like Emberlyn, but think it's too similar to Sabryn. Names I like to go with Sabryn and Easton:

Ellery

Flannery

Finnley

Quincy

Darby

Hadley

Rory

Ainsley

Embry

Teagan

It sounds way too much like a last name to me, and even though it's not actually "made up", it still follows the same pattern and sound of a number of the more trendy, "made up" names because...

a. IT's a "Mc-"name.

b. It has a "y" in it

c. the "-yn" ending is particularly trendy

d. it sounds like a last name being used as a first name, and at best it sounds more like a boys name than a girls name.

Sorry, just not too crazy about this one.- but you did ask what we thought.

Good luck, whatever you decide! :)

I've always liked the name Ember - unique and not too strange - pretty - so Emberlyn is also nice, agree with pps. McKartyn is okay, nms too much.

With your other children's names, I'd go with Emberlyn

McCarten/McKartyn is ok, but nms. i wont use them due to the popularity trendy of the Mc/Mack names, however i do like Mackenzie, Mackenna, Makayla.. dont you think a trendy-style name would be too differnt from, Sabryn & Easton? love your names! they are unique, not popular, yet names. if you like the flow and sound of, McKartyn, would you like, Kartney? is it coincidence or

I heard that name on the show and loved it. I don't think its too trendy and I'm Irish, so it holds a special place on my list. I'm not crazy about your choice of spelling though, that does seem to follow the current trends. But the name sounds good with your current children's names.

Best of luck!
