Girl names...

We are still working on girls names! Does anyone have thoughts on these - currently these are our top choices:

Amelia - is it becoming too popular? I'm worried that with the importance of Emily and Olivia this is the next "pottery barn" name. But, dh is a big fan because we picked it 5 years ago before we were even married.

Louisa - I really don't have any concerns on this one - just not "sure" about it

Sterling - I know, it's usually a boy's name, but I really like it for a girl!

Genevieve - This might be my favorite, and I'm warming to the nn Neve or Nevie (pron Nehvie), since Evie is off the table b/c of a family member

Anastasia - dh thinks it's "too much" to give a kid four syllables and hasn't warmed to my nn suggestions

Daphne - Again, I like it dh is lukewarm

Charlotte - dh loves it, I am so/so and our last name starts with a "T"

Georgia - We both like it, and it belonged to dh's grandmother, still - not quite sure...

Any thoughts are much appreciated!! We'll probably end up with a boy and all this will be mute. We have that one figured out for the moment...

Great list! ;)

Amelia - it is a bit popular (still no Emily ), and if that will bother you there are plenty of other great choices here! Have you considered either Amelie or Amalia? Same feel, but not as popular. FWIW, I love Amelia and it's variants. ;)

Louisa - I do like this a lot, but I like Eloise just a bit more. Kind of a compromise between Amelia and Louisa ... if you haven't considered it yet you should!

Sterling - this one's just ok IMO. I don't associate it with either sex, really, it just doesn't sound like a given name when I hear it, KWIM? If it's a family name, it would make a great mn.

Genevieve - love this! Would you say Neve like Niamh (neev) or like the beginning of "never?"

Anastasia - Anastasia's a beautiful name. If dh doesn't like it, however, you have plenty of other great choices.

Daphne - Daphne has grown on me a lot lately, and I actually like it quite a bit (but I'll never use it because I already have a dd named Devanie ... a bit too similar LOL).

Charlotte - I'm with you on this one. I like the name, but if your ln starts with a T I wouldn't do it.

Georgia - If you're not quite sure about it, what about for a mn? It's work great with a lot of fns that don't also end in A ...

Amelie Georgia
Eloise Georgia
Genevieve Georgia (ok, I wouldn't actually do this unless you were planning on calling her Gigi or something LOL)

You have a great list to work with here. I'm sure you won't have a problem coming up with the perfect name. ;)

My vote would go to Georgia. I LOVE that name. (And if I didn't live in Georgia, it'd be at the top of my list.) It's beautiful and so underused. And in your case, it's a family name. So it was an easy decision for me.

Louisa is my second choice. Like Georgia, it's beautiful and underused. It's a long-time favorite of mine.

My thoughts on the others:

Amelia/Charlotte - I adore both of these, but they are SUPER popular here. These are definitely the next wave of the old-fashioned trend. Along with Lucy, Evelyn and Vivian, they are steadily moving up to replace Emma, Emily, Isabelle, Sophie, etc.

Sterling - NMS, but I think it would make an interesting middle name

Genevieve - Okay. I don't like this name as much as I want to. I think it's a bit frilly for my taste.

Anastasia - I love this one.

Daphne - Love this one too. It has a different feel from your others, but I think it's great.

Amelia - Beautiful, and I have never met someone with this name, so I definately wouldn't compare its popularity with Emily, Kaylee, or Abigail

Louisa - beautiful. I love the classy sound of it.

Sterling - Your other names are much better and I do prefer this on a boy

Genevieve - I like it with the nn's you mentioned, Evie is seeming to grow quickly as a nn so I would avoid that. The name itself is nice.

Anastasia - LOVE it. I definately don't think that long names are too much... think Alexandra/Alexander and Elizabeth, both very common names and all 4 syllables. You could use the nn Annie, Stacy, Asia, Ana, etc. LOVE it

Daphne - Very sweet and spunky (and uncommon which is nice)

Charlotte - If your last name begins with a T, I would rule it out.

Georgia - I always love family names, this is a great, spunky name

Amelia -nice name - Maybe try spelling this Emelia ( not as popular)... Emelia Sterling, Amelia Caroline, Amelia Magdalene or even Mari/Mary Amelia

Louisa - is ok - Louisa Brielle, Louisa Eileen. Louisa Gwendlyn, Louisa Annette

Sterling - I see more as a mn - but here goes....Sterling Grace, Streling Rose, Sterling Noelle

Genevieve - pretty - Genevieve Rose, Genevieve Tessa, Genevieve Kate, Genevieve Celine, also like Geneva...Geneva Lily, Geneva Margaret, Geneva Diane, Geneva Kathryn, Geneva Eloise

Anastasia - pretty - I might spell it with a z - Anastazia nn Zia, Anastazia Summer, Anastasia Skye, Anastasia Monet

Daphne - cute, Daphne Gwendolyn, Daphne Victoria, Daphne Corinne, Daphne Colette

Charlotte - pretty, Charlotte Madison, Charlotte Mckenna, Charlotte Isabel, Charlotte Nicole, Charlotte Brielle

Georgia - pretty - Georgia Lynn, Georgia Ellery, Georgia Caroline, Georgia Kathryn, Georgia Patrice

Amelia - is it becoming too popular? I do not know any children with this name. However, according to the lists and how much I hear it on this board, I think it is getting popular. It is not my favorite on your list, but I really like the nn Mia

Louisa - It's ok

Sterling - My mother almost named me Sterling! If wasn't for Grandparent veto I would have been Sterling Brooke. As pp mentioned, this will make a great mn.

Genevieve - I like the nn you have chosen for this name. I just think that this is too much name and is hard for a young child to spell/say. I prefer Geneva - you can get the same nn, but it is a simpler name.

Anastasia - I agree that this is too much name.

Daphne - I think of Frasier. If husband doesn't like, then I wouldn't use it.

Charlotte - strike because of the T issue

Georgia - This name gets my number one vote! Georgia Sterling would be adorable! You could also use the nn, Gia.

Thanks for all the replies! I should add...

Amelia - My husband really likes "Amelia India" because that is where we picked the name. He was totally set on it, but now he's willing to look at others

As far as other middle names go, we are pretty set on using family names because we used a special one for our son's middle name (Soren Jennings) and have one we'll probably use if it's a boy (Ezra Charles). Girl family name options:

Anne (my grandmother's name and my mn)
Grace (Anne means Grace)
Pearl (my great grandma)
June (we were married in June)
Georgia (husband's grandma)
Sterling (not a family name, but I like it and our 3 year old literally cried when he realized we were considering other names, he was set on a little baby sister named Sterling - which was funny, because we had just mentioned it in passing)

I really appreciate all of the comments, by the way!!

Amelia-- Yes, I think Amelia is just exactly what you predicted it would become...the next Pottery Barn name! I hear it a lot and to me, it isn't as nice as either Emily or Olivia (but that's just personal taste). I'd steer clear of this one just the same.

Louisa-- alright, but not nearly as nice as Georgia (and lacks the personal significance Georgia has for you also)

Sterling-- not my fav; the only ambisexual name on your list. i think you might "grow out of this one"

Genevieve-- very popular now with those of us on the baby name boards...usually a sign of what is to come in the general population.Could be the next jennifer (5 yrs away, but still!)

Anastasia--your dh doesn't like it; let it go

Daphne-- I love this one; I'd keep it on the list and see if dh warms to it over time. Rare, lovely, spunky.

Charlotte-- my dd's name, and thus the perfect name in my opinion. Gaining in popularity, may be the next Caroline (Caroline was very popular in the 90's)

Georgia-- the name I think you should go with; personally siginificant; of the same style as the other names on your list (except for Sterling) which means I think you won't likely tire of it, unexpected and very pretty. A winner!

I have an Amelia who is 2-1/2 and I haven't met anyone else with one (although I've heard of it becoming more popular - I just haven't met any in real life). I also have an Anastasia which I love, but I will admit we never call her that - she has always been Ana.

Of the others you mentioned, I like Charlotte the best, but it's hard to say without knowing the last name!

Good luck!
