Girl names related to month of March?
| Fri, 10-06-2006 - 3:40pm |
Hello all! I hope this question makes sense to someone:
I'm due in early March, and I'm on the hunt for girl names that tie into that month. It would be used as a middle name. (We haven't yet decided on a first name, but that is a separate post!). A friend suggested Emerald or Jade, as a link to St. Patrick's Day, but we're not feeling those at all.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

You could use a name that is found as a name day in March. From the Behind the Name website:
In many cultures there are first names associated with the days of the year. The associations between the days and the names have arisen through many reasons, but primarily because the church held a festival for a saint of that name on that day. For instance, the church feast of Saint Michael was held on September 29th, and as a result the name day for Michael is on September 29th. In some countries one's nameday is more important than one's birthday, and sometimes gifts are given.

Some of my favorites from there: Stella, Camilla, Mari, Victoria, Leila, Colette, Vivien, Catherine, Elena, Kira, Mara, Audra, Helena, Matilda, Amelia

Hi! I love your idea of giving her a name connected to her date of birth, I think it is very poetic and cute.
Well, I was just thinking, since March is the first month of Spring when trees and flowers begin to blossom, why wouldn't you try and find a beautiful Spring flower name -or anything that evokes the awakening of Nature for you? Daisy (or Marguerite in French), Lily (or Lys in French)... if you don't care for these, you could look in a herbology book or borrow flower names from other countries :)
Another idea would be to give her the name of Marcia, or Marcie, or Marceline, Marcelle... They all come from the latin name Marcus, which is derived from the Roman God Mars, who gave his name to the month of March (that's a mouthful :))
I hope I gave you a few ideas! Good luck to you in naming your baby girl!

I would maybe think about spring flowers or blossom names. Heck, even Spring would be cute as a name.
Anthea is Greek and means flowery
Cerelia is Latin and means "related to springtime"
Linnea is Swedish and is a beautiful flower
Verna is Latin and means springlike/born in spring (there is a couple variations on the name)
Aviva is Hebrew and means spring
Antonia is Latin for Priceless/flower
Elodie is Greek and means flower
Flora is Latin
Leilani is Hawaiian and means heavenly flower
Iris, Lily, Violet etc
Yasmine is Arabic and means flower
Good luck
Hello and welcome.
This idea will make for a neat connection. Selecting a mn of significance gives the whole name weight and roots, IMO.
Suggestions:
I'm a fan of the name March for a girl! It's a long-time fave of mine. Actually, it's been in use as a girl name since the 1800s.
Related to St. Patrick's Day-
Patricia
Patrice
Ireland
Erin -
Ginger
Christianne or Pascale.
Just a thought.
Congratulations on your baby girl!

You've gotten lots of wonderful suggestions so far, so I won't repeat them. But as a March baby myself, I love that my birthstone is the Aquamarine. Marina may be a cute nickname that would be tied to her birth month without being so very obvious.
Good luck...March is a great month to be born in!
I would use a name that has a meaning related to "wind", for no other reason than March is a windy month AND...it's the first thing that popped into my head. Some ideas:
Anemone- (Greek) meaning: breath, windflower
Anila- (Hindi) meaning: Children of the wind
Aure- (Greek) meaning: breeze, soft air
Great suggestions so far.
