Hi Ladies,
My friend is expecting her first dd in a few weeks and they are still struggling with finding the perfect name. They will probably give her Julia as a fn (her mom's name) but want her to go by her mn.
On the list:
Jane
Grace
Magdelena
Gabriella
Blaine (her own mn)
If it were up to my friend the name would be Julia Magdelena, but her dh isn't convinced (I think Blaine is his favorite choice). I would love your thoughts on these names as well as any other suggestions...
Thanks!
Mel

With Julia I love Blaine.
I love Julia Grace as well. Unless Grace is a family name, I think Blaine is a better choice b/c Grace has become such an overused mn these days. As much as I love Gabriella I don't think it flows with Julia as nicely as Grace and Blaine. I also don't love the flow of Julia Jane either, maybe b/c of the alliteration.
Good luck.
Here are my thoughts:
Jane- I generally like it, but Julia Jane would sound odd, and I prefer Julia.
Grace- I can't endorse it. I like it but has been overused to the point that it is bland and boring to me now.
Magdelena- LOVE it so much! I had a friend in high school w/ this name and she went by Magda. It is a beautiful name in full, plus has several nn options (Magda, Maggie, Della, Lena). By far my favorite on this list. Would DH like Magdalene any better?
Gabriella- This is OK, I'd slightly prefer Gabrielle w/ fn Julia.
Blaine (her own mn)- I would prefer it used as a mn that the child didn't go by. I think it sounds really cool and spunky as a mn (Gabriella Blaine, Magdalena Blaine sound good), but as a name the child would go by, I don't like it. Obviously, it is a boy name. This would be absolutely great if it was a mn b/c it's family, but I just wouldn't like it on a little girl (or a little boy for that matter, I really just don't like Blaine very much at all, LOL).
Has your friend thought about using Julia as the mn to honor her mom? It has the same significance, especially if they're not going to call her that. Just a thought.
Here are a few suggestions they might like:
Adriana
Juliet/ Juliette to honor her mom
Julianna, again honoring her mom
Anastasia
Annabella
Simone
Camille
Stella
Emilia
Lydia
Eliana
Carolina
Claudia
Good luck to them, let us know what they decide!
Liz
Thanks belle_petite for the siggy!
I'm not wild about Julia Jane as a first and middle name; too many J's for me.
Julia Grace is pretty, but every other little girl's middle name is Grace these days.
Julia Magdalena is beautiful and different - I like it! I like Julia Magdalen even better.
Julia Gabriella is nice, but I think I like Julia Gabrielle better.
Julia Blaine is just OK to me. Blaine doesn't sparkle the way Magdalen(a) does (just my opinion).
None of the choice are really my style. But if I had to pick I'd go with Blaine. Has your friend thought about Blair? Julia Blair seems so perfect to me. Blair is similar to Blaine without being so masucline if you know what I mean. I've never heard Blaine on a girl before so that seems a little strange.

Good luck,

I love the idea of Blaine as a mn, but not on a child who goes by their mn, KWIM? I think the sound of Julia Blaine is lovely, IF she were to go by Julia- Blaine just adds that added spunk. Jane is a favourite of mine, but I dislike the JJ aliteration. Grace is WAY overdone and Gabriella is a tad boring to me.
Knowing that Blaine has family connections, despite prefering it as a mn, I think Julia Blaine called Blaine could work.
