Somerset is a favourite name for a girl that I keep trying to talk myself out of then find myself going back to. It is based, in part, on the fact that my mother is English, I teach literature, and Somerset Maugham (male) is a favorite author. And also, because it is a place name, a pretty word, and different but not made up sounding (my last name is a one syllable top ten name, not Jones but close.) I would like your honest thoughts. She could always be Somer during the years she wants avoid standing out. Any thoughts on middle names?

Any other suggestions on Anglo names that are pretty, perhaps have a literary connection, and are unusual but not too unusual. I especially like three or more syllable names with such a short last name. I saw a posting mentioning that Saskia was getting very popular in the UK. Does anyone know the meaning or origin or pronunciation?

Any comments on the following (I know they are all different and not all British, but I'd like your initial impression when you hear the name_:

Bronte
Emeline
Everly
Waverly
Jessamine or Jessamy
Catalin
Adelaide
Millicent
Flannery
Calliope
Cosima
Veronica

I have to say, if I ever met a little girl named Somerset I would immediately assume her parents either a) were crazy, or b) wanted their daughter to grow up to be an English butler. But I'm assuming neither apply to you. From your list, I like Adelaide and Emeline (though I much prefer the spelling Emmaline). Veronica and Millicent are alright too, but the rest sound either weird, pretentious, or both. If you love the Brontë sisters so much, why not name her Emily or Charlotte or Anne...because otherwise it seems like you just want to impress people with your knowledge of English authors by giving your kid a silly name (and believe me, I like some silly names myself, but I wouldn't saddle my child with them).
