Okay, I voted for Caitlyn, which is a name I love (though I prefer the Caitlin spelling). However, if you are looking for an "unusual" name, you are WAY off on these choices. These names aren't just popular, they are incredibly trendy. Check out your boys poll for information on the popularity of Cadence.
Madison is currently the third most popular name for girls in the country, and has been in the top 10 every year since 1997. There are also currently four other spellings of Madison in the top 1000 list of most popular names for girls: Madisyn (406), Madyson (454), Maddison (515), Madisen (872).
I'm not really sure if you're looking for the most unusual of these choices or just like these names and think they're unusual (they're actually all VERY popular!).
Here they are in the order I like them:
Caitlyn - which I voted for, but has been in the top 10 or so names for at least the last five years (especially when you count all the various spellings ... I actually have an almost-five-year-old named Kaitlyn) ... luckily, we've only known one other one personally, and she was my friend's little sister in high school and is in her 20s now
Cadence - I really liked this until I started hearing it everywhere
Madison - WAY too trendy right now, and I much prefer the similar but classic Madeline
Brooklyn - unless you live there (and really, even if you do), I wouldn't
Here they are from the most "unusual" to the least:
Cadence - I've only started hearing this recently, so although it seems pretty trendy, it is at least a BIT unusual to me
Caitlyn - again, not that unusual, but since I've only seen it rise in popularity (although it has risen a LOT lol) in the last few years, it's at least more unusual than, say, a more classic name like Catherine
Madison - same as above, the only way this is unusual is in the fact that I've only seen it become uber-popular in the last few years (along with many other usually-masculine -son names)
Brooklyn - not "unusual" at all, really, just another place name used on a child (and I believe this one was used on television - General Hospital or some other Soap my grandmother watches? - at least 10 years ago, so certainly nothing new)
We used Brooklyn for our DD. I have heard it only a few times. So far, I have heard positive remarks, but of course she is already here so it is hard to say your true feelings now. I love it and we are used to it now. It really is a cute name.
I didn't read the other responses, but Madison is practically the most popular name in the country for the past five years. they are EVERYWHERE. Emily & Emma have been #1 & #2 on the social security site, Madison #3 - but I know far more Madison's than Emily and Emma combined where I am. - from about 16 years old down to infants and it isn't letting up
Caitlyn was one of the top names of the late 80s and 90s. there are tons of Caitlins from about age six up to 22.
Brooklyn is probably the most unusual in terms of how often you hear it. I don't know any Cadence's either. but neither can be considered "unusual"
Are you going for which name is the most unusual? I personally think Cadence is because I've never known or heard of a Cadence (in other words, I voted for Cadence). However, it's all about exposure as I see other people have heard that one quite a bit. My friend named her daughter Brooklyn (only like this: Brooklynn) so that no longer gets my vote for most unusual. ;) Both Caitlyn and Madison are names I've heard a lot and met a few of each. Good luck with the name selection process, it can be quite the task I'm finding! :)
