Good Name, Bad Meaning

I like the name Mallory but the meaning is unlucky.
Should I forget about the meaning?
I'm not superstitious, but do believe a name has a part in the development of a child.

These names are have a similar sound. I think you might like Malinda or Melinda- its similar to Mallory.
Yes, forget about the meaning! Mallory is a great name! (Wow, Melanie, Janelle and now Mallory...I am SO glad to see these names on this board!!!!)
btw, my name means "consecrated to God" or "oath of God" and I am not religious in the least :) so the meaning would have no sway on me!
I think Mallory is a lovely name, and I don't think that meanings matter too much (I thought when I was little, after looking my own name up in a book, that it meant "See Judith" - lol!). So many names these days have untraceable meanings, that I wonder whether schools will be able to continue having these research-your-name's-meaning projects anyway. I thought I'd just suggest a slight variation though: what about Mellory? I think the root 'mel' usually means honey, while 'mal' usually means bad. I actually have a friend whose sister is Meleri, and she is Welsh, so maybe this is a more authentic spelling?

My DH and I have debated the same thing. We like the name Mallory too but was unsure about the meaning. If something God forbid ever happen would that always be in your back of your head. "If only I had named her something with a positive meaning, then she might not have fell and broke her leg" LOL I don't think they live up to the meaning of a name. But it is a personal battle.... most people dont know the meanings of names, so you will have to be the one that has to be okay with it.
I like the name and say to go for it. Maybe putting a MN with a nice meaning that makes it more "meaning" friendly. Best of luck to you!!
I really like the name Mallory - it's a shame about the meaning
the reason there are people named Mallory is that some people pay no attention to that
but if you unable to overlook that, then it could be a problem
I can't suggest to you what to do. Me, I'd use it. it doesn't bother me
but if it bothers you, you might end up dwelling on it a lot.
how about Hilary as an alternative - similar sound, although I don't know what the meaning is.
