Good Name, Bad Meaning

I like the name Mallory but the meaning is unlucky.

Should I forget about the meaning?

I'm not superstitious, but do believe a name has a part in the development of a child.

I also like the name Mali, which means lucky. My husband doesn't think it is a strong enough name alone. He thinks we could name her Mallory and call her Mali. Is Mali a strong enough name by itself?

I wouldn't be concerned about the meaning. The way people are making up and modifying names these days, I don't think meaning has an importance as it once did? Consider Brody("unusual beard") and Sierra("saw")...a name is just a name, it's what's inside that will determine one's true potential.

Go with your heart...I can assure you I am not a powerful ruler as my name promised!
