Grace or Gracie?

My husband and I really love the name Grace Marie. We also love Gracie Marie. I know there's not too much of a difference, but we can't decide between them. She would be called by both names (ie: Grace Marie or Gracie Marie)...a double name I guess you would call it. Which one do you like? Also I have a good friend who's daughters middle name is Grace, is that too weird to use Grace as my baby's first name?

I would go with Grace Marie. Most likely, you will call her Gracie as a little girl (and probably forever as her mom and dad!), but as she gets older, she will probably like the option of using simply Grace.

And the fact that your friend's daughter has the middle name Grace shouldn't be an issue...unless they call her Grace. My daughter's middle name is Elizabeth and I wouldn't care if my sisters or brothers used it as a first name at all.

Grace Marie is a lovely name!!

I am due in August and my girl name is Grace also. We are going to name her Grace but call her Gracie for a nickname. I already have one daughter Georgia Kate. My husband, family and close friends call her by her double name but the rest of the world does not. She is 2 and calls herself Georgia because that is what they call her at daycare. Just thought I'd let you know. I'm apprehensive about the name Grace because it is sooooo popular and I don't want her to be Grace F. in her classroom. How do you feel about its popularity? See ya karrot!

Just ask your friend if it bothers her. I would NEVER care if my friend named her daughter Kate :) I guess it depends on the person.

Yeah I'm leaning towards Grace instead of Gracie, but DH is truly in love with Gracie. I'm trying to convince him to name her Grace and he can call her Gracie as like a special 'Daddy nickname"...but he's stubborn. The popularity thing doesn't bother me too much because the only time I really hear Grace is as a middle name(at least around here) I know it's like number 14 on SSA list but I rarely hear it as a first name

100% Grace over Gracie. I think Gracie is absolutely adorable for a little girl -- and even as a nickname when she's an adult. But I have a hard time picturing "Gracie" on a resume or business cards. It's just so inherently little girl cutesy that it seems a bit silly on a professional adult. Let her have Grace for her formal name, then call her Gracie as much as you want. But at least this way she has the option of using her full name if she needs it later in life.

I agree with many of the pps ... Gracie is a cute nn for a little girl, but it's just that -- a nickname. By naming her Grace, you give her the option of using either her formal, adult-sounding name or the nn you choose to call her by, KWIM? That way, she won't end up a senior citizen always explaining that, no, she does not have a more formal name, her parents simply named her Gracie. Options are nice. ;)

Definitely like Grace Marie better! You can always call her Gracie as a nn. I have a friend who has a Grace and they call her Gracie - so cute!
And, not weird at all that your friend has Grace as a middle name. Go for it!
