Hi Ginger!

I was so happy to see a recent post from you ... I just love your taste in names. We've posted back and forth a few times over the years. Here I am due in a little over a week, and I'm still agonizing over my boy name! Remember, my boys are Zachary Ty and Zane Michael ... LN Richards.

Well, DH and I settled on Luke Zephan, but now I'm worried that Luke is getting too popular. I know Zachary is still popular, but we've been so spoiled with Zane that we really like that unique aspect. I think perhaps I'm focusing too much on how well the three names flow?

I've ruled out a few names we both love, Daxton (rhymes too much with Zach), Kai (just not the right feel, too surfy) and Finn (maybe too Irish?). Here's some of my other ideas:

Luke Zephan (current top contender)

Zephan Brent (nn Zeff, DH Brent)

Zephan Trace (nn Zeff)

Trace ?????

Quentin/Quinton James (nn Quinn, neat w/ #5 reference, like that Q!)

Ashton (nn Ash) ????? (getting popular, but not nearly as much as Luke)

Declan (nn Dex) (too Irish?)

If you could offer your opinions, I would so appreciate it. You always have such reasonable and great advice!

TIA,

MB

Ginger, you are so funny! Trenton Mantz and Brooks Quinton were both *your* suggestions ... you just had so many you can't remember them all!

John Beckett Richards, pretty classy if I do say so myself! Very nice, and incorporates the family name. It's added to my list already. Good point about the name John, though. I will have DH check with his bro, but I seriously doubt there would be any issues. It's DH's family who brought up the idea anyway.

Aquinnah Kathryn is gorgeous ... I do like Quinn for a girl as well. I've never heard of Aquinnah before! I think I'd have to do some *serious* arm twisting to get DH on board for that one, though! I'm still working to convince him that Zoe is *not* the way to go. I do agree with you 100%. Zachary and Zane together I like, but add Zoe, and I think something is lost, it kind of diminishes the boys' names somehow. But do you feel the same way about Zephan/Zebulon? That is my fear, that three Z's seems too contrived.

And you know, I never even noticed that Teagan Marie uses the boys' middle initials, and even in the right order!! That is truly amazing. You know, I've just been rooting for this name for years, and I think I'm going to have to stick with it. I just think I'll regret making a rash decision and not using my Teagan. But Teagan with a little sister Quinn would be lovely ... (let's not get ahead of ourselves yet, though! *LOL*)

Now, with John Quentin, would you nn Quinn? Because I'm still stuck on the Quinn part. John Quinton? I defintely prefer the look of Quentin, but can you nn Quinn with that?

Thanks again for such neat suggestions (that Xanthe is fascinating, but I think I like it written better than said). This thread is getting long, huh?

Hugs,

Beppy

Butt right in, Monya! All opinions are welcome. ;)

Vincent is great, and I was perusing the V section, for sure. But unfortunately, a friend just named their baby boy Vincent, so it's not up for grabs for us. I'm still definitely leaning away from the Z's though, if I can talk DH out of Zoe!

Thanks again for the great suggestion! John Vincent is very nice. ;)

Yes, I did suggest Trenton Mantz & Brooks Quinton, didn't I? LOL

Answers to your questions:

John Beckett is fantastic, but if I do say so myself, so are so many of the choices you are taking to the hospital with you! I would love to see someone use Beckett. I didn't "discover" if for myself until after my family was complete. If I ever had a third child (son) he would be Beckett.

On the third Z-name---I would do something new this time, but in the same vein. However, Zebulon & Zephan are the two Z-names I love, if you do decide to do another Z. Great choices, and there's nothing wrong with doing a third Z-. I can think of so many families right off the top of my head that have three children with the same letter. Yet in all those cases, each name was already "cutesy" anyway. (Coby, Kaylee, Kortney or Brett, Brianna, Brinley). That's where you are different. There's nothing cute about Zachary Ty or Zane Michael. Yes, they are adorable for little folks, but they GROW UP well. For that reason, a small part of their charm is lost with the addition of Zoe or Zeb.

Vince was a fabulous suggestion. It's a name I REALLY like. Victor is beginning to grow on me as well. John Victor? Victor Brent? called Vic?

I misread an earlier post of yours and thought the girl name you like is Taegan. Now I see that it is Teagan. I LOVE THIS NAME! AND, I love the T.M. This is a winner b/c you've loved it for years. It has staying power. Many times parents hear a "new" name and jump on it (i.e. Madison, Taylor, etc.) and later wish they had gone with something they had loved previously. Teagan Richards is precious at age 2 and stunning at age 25.

On Quinton/Quentin. You clearly prefer Quentin. Yes, I think you can nn him Quinn, but it'll be a lot more confusing. Are you not crazy about my suggestion of Quent? This knocks out two obstacles- the proper spelling and the fact that Quinn is being used quite often for girls.

As long as you're the one having the babies, I fully support #4, Aquinnah Kathryn! LOL

My sis came in from Portland, Oregon last night. She doesn't have children but is as fascinated with names as I am. She LOVES John Quentin. Possibly wouldn't look further except that she thinks baby #3 needs a Z IN his or her name. So she wants to add Liza Marie or Kathryn and likes John Mantz.

Don't you just love all these opinions? Still hanging in there, I suppose. Take care, Ginger

Yep ... I'm still here! Despite the fact that my friend tried to walk me all over the mall this morning in an effort to coax this babe out! Sunday is my EDD, but I'm really not in a rush.

It looks like my pg hormones are causing me to be inconsistent! I actually was intending to write Taegan, and then wrote Teagan in the next post. Do you have a strong opinion between the two spellings? I am looking for the pronunciation "Tay-gun" with nn "Tay-a", versus "Tee-gin". Originally, I had planned to use the Teagan spelling (rhyming w/ Reagan), and I adore the nn spelled "Tea" with the dash over the "e", as in Tea Leoni. But in some previous posts on this board, I decided that folks will likely pronounce Teagan "Tee-gin" Hence switching the "e" and "a", to eliminate the confusion. I will probably still spell the nn "Tea" because I think that's just so elegant. What do you think about the spelling/pronunciation issue?

Quent, rhyming with Brent, right? Hmmmmmmm. Not bad. I much prefer Quent over Quint, but Quinn Richards seems to flow better than Quent Richards. But the more I'm thinking about it, the more it's growing on me. That's *really* unique (and masculine), no? So we'll have:

John Quinton Richards (Quinn)

John Quentin Richards (Quent)

if we choose to use John.

I most surely do enjoy all of these opinions! You and your sister must have great fun with these names. My mom is my sounding board, and seems to enjoy the hunt as well. Liza Marie reminds me of Lisa Marie Presley, though! I'm not bent on including a Z in the name, it would be so subtle (unless it starts with a Z), that I really don't think most folks would "get" the connection.

I'll have to check to see the number of folks reading this thread ... it's getting so impressive, *LOL*.

Looking forward to hearing your thoughts (again!)

Okay ... printed out my list of 39 boy names and am having DH vote for his top picks. Anyway, he wants to know your opinion on Zeke? I have maintained all along that it is *way* too similar to Zach, but he thinks the strong "eee" sound is enough to distinguish between the two.

Zach, Zane and Zeke? And I don't think Ezekiel Richards sounds so hot, either. So would one go with just plain Zeke? But in general, I tend to prefer the more formal name, and then shorten to a nn.

So, your thoughts on Zeke would be appreciated, also!

P.S. Over 1120 views to this thread so far! ;)

I actually hadn't thought about Quent rhyming with Brent; I'm not sure I like that. Perhaps Quinn is the better choice. According to the SSA website, the name Quinn by itself is #293 for boys and NOT in the top 1000 for girls. So, I've decided it's a good choice. However, I still say if you call him Quinn, it probably should be spelled Quinton for simplicity's sake.

If you want your daughter's name to be pronounced Tay-gan, I'd go with Taegan. Teagan is tee-gan, to me. Perhaps you should ask everyone else here on the board their opinion about this. Maybe I'm wrong. Tea, Tea Leoni, is such an appealing spelling. So, maybe you could get away with it. I went to high school with a girl whose name was simply Tey. Very pretty.

Zeke, I like. However, you know my opinion on another Z. The name Ezekiel is growing on me; yet I think Zephan/Zebulon is a better fit with your last name and the other boys' names. If you do another Z, I'm voting for Zeb simply because it's nice in long form and gives you a good nn.

Hope all is well with you. Please let us know as soon as you decide. Best wishes, and let me know if I can be of more help. Ginger

Hi Ginger!

I'm still here ... hanging out on the board and I've got 4 minutes until my official EDD *LOL*.

After mulling over this the past few days, I think I'm closing in on Quinn Matthew in a big way. I think it has a nice flow and really compliments the boys' names instead of drawing away from them. Now, I just need to see if I can get DH's agreement, since we've been talking Luke for so many months now!

I will put a poll up for Teagan spellings ~ I am really unsure of that one. It will be interesting to see what the ladies say. When I solicited opinions on this one (not a poll), about 6 people voted for Taegan as the clearest way to match the pronunciation I'm looking for.

I will be sure to let you know what happens ... hopefully we'll have a babe in the next week or so (yikes!!!)

Thanks again!
