Hello everyone...I just joined and would like to ask your opinion for my dilemma

I am 27 weeks along and chose the name for my daughter a couple of months ago...Teaghyn Rose

My mother absolutely hates it!! She says that the baby will hate the name and hate me. I have two other daughters...their names are Bryanna Marie and Kaelyn Michelle. My mom says that in the end I will be setting Teaghyn apart from her sisters because her name is so different from theirs but I don't think that the names Bryanna and Kaelyn really have much in common except for the y (which I am including in Teaghyn's name).

My mom thinks it sounds like a boy name and cannot be used for a girl. She gets so upset about it that if the name is brought up she leaves the room.

I feel like I had to get her approval for the naming of my first two daughters and it is really bothering her that I am sticking to my guns on this one.

I'm really stressed out about it...please HELP!!!

Welcome to the board. I love Rose as a mn. I like Teagan - but with this spelling.

I really like Teagan Rose, but with that spelling. Teaghyn just looks incredibly strange; I had to look at it twice before I realized what it was! Your mother might warm up to it more with the traditional spelling, instead of the trendy misspelling.

I prefer the Teagan spelling too but with either spelling it goes just fine with your other DDs names and is definitely 100% girl. I do like the PPs suggestion of another M MN to make the link with your other girls' names. At the end of the day though she's your baby and you get to choose the name - not your Mom. My suggestion would be if she asks/challenges about it again just say you're still thinking about it. Once the baby's here and named Teagan/Teaghyn she'll probably get used to it.

Honestly I think what you name your child is up to you not your mom. She had her chance chosing names for her children and now it is your turn to chose names for your children. I say stick to the name you have chosen if it's a name that you love. I

stick to your guns on it

while it sounds like it could be unisex, I have only heard it on girls

I've heard it pronounced both TEE-gan and TAY-gan

I think that is the one thing, it's open to mispronunciation possibilities - the one way I saw it pronounced TAY-gan, that I like the spelling best was Taegan, because that definitely made you say TAY - with any of the versions that start out Tea - that can go either way

I think if want the long Es - it should be spelled Teegan

Actually, Tegan is pronounced "tay-gan". Teagan is pronounced "tee-gan".

hello! heres my 2 cents-its not her baby, its yours and shes going to have to get over it. my dad absolutely HATED the name i picked out for my oldest dd-violet-he thought it sounded like an orphan child or something else equally undesirable. i named her violet-and after he saw her and said her name, he said it fit and she couldnt be named anything else. she'll get over it and if she really doesnt like it, she can call her by her middle name-rose is very nice to-lol.

I totally agree, My dad hated one of my twins name, Emaline. I know its a different name, especially with the basic names the rest of my kids have. He said it just sounded aweful with the other kids names, but since he saw her, he said
