Gwyneth?

I am being induced in less than 2 weeks, and we have decided on the name Gwyneth long ago. I love the name, but every time I tell someone what we are naming the baby I just get "oh, ok" or something along those same lines. I need thoughts from people I don't know so I can't take it personally, do you like the name?

I love Gwyneth! I can't believe you've gotten so many negative reactions. Maybe just because people unfamiliar with the name itself immediately associate it with the actress? Still, that's not a negative for me. It's not like she's controversial in any way. She actually seems very sweet ... I like her! ;) Definitely not akin to naming your child Britney or Madonna or anything like that.
Gwyneth is actually in my top five (if we would ever end up with a fourth girl LOL). When I first mentioned it to my dh a loooong time ago, I made the mistake of doing so after Genevieve, Gwendolen and Guinevere, all of which were "too King Arthur" for him (which is hilarious, because my FIL's name IS Arthur LOL). Anyway, after all those, I figured Gwyneth would definitely get his blessing, since it's not quite as "out there" for him. Instead, he said something about it not seeming "girly" enough after those last few! Men are strange. ;)

Gwyneth is a fabulous name choice! Don't let anyone tell you any differently. It's very elegant and feminine, IMO. I also love the nn Gwynn. It was one of my top choices but didn't flow well with our last name. I hope you decide to use it! I think it would be wonderful on a little girl.
Let us know what you decide! Good luck!
I personally am not crazy about Gwyneth but I'm not sure why because I really like Gwendolyn and Gwynne. I think that the reaction you're getting is due to the fact that it's a classic not a trendy name. We are so used to hearing the same half a dozen names over and over again that it takes us by surprise when we hear something different. It's a very pretty name and don't worry about the raction of others. Good luck and hope that all goes well for you and your baby!!!

Gwyneth was one of my sister's top two girl names before she found out that her baby was a boy. When she first mentioned it, I reacted the same way your friends did. "Oh, okay."
I had never really thought about this name before. But the more I thought about it, the more I realized how cute it would be on her child. I like it quite alot now. I was almost disappointed when they found out that the baby was a boy because then they couldn't use Gwyneth.
So don't worry about it if people don't express an opinion. It may be that they need time to form one.
