Haven't Found a Name We Love Yet

Hi Everyone,

DH and I are expecting our first and we have decided not to find out the sex. We have a boy's name all picked out but can't seem to agree on a girl's name. We like some names but don't really love anything.
This morning I woke up and two names came to mind: Alaina (Elaina) or Alana. Which do you prefer and what middle names do you think would sound good? Our last name is Scott.

Thanks for your help

Much prefer Alana or Elena. No 'i'. I think a simple, one syllable or very classic 3 or 4 syllable mn works best:

Alana Rose Scott
Alana Grace Scott
Alana Faith Scott
Alana Hope Scott
Alana Caroline Scott
Alana Catherine Scott
Alana Madeleine Scott
Alana Brynn Scott

You're right; naming is hard! But, it can be fun too. Just know that in the end your baby's name will be a perfect fit and you'll wonder why it was difficult!

I prefer family middle names; I think kids like to be named after someone.

Elena (the original spelling) is a beautiful, feminine, timeless name. Elaina/Alaina would be my next choice.

If you don't have anyone you want to name her after, perhaps you would consider a mn with a special meaning-

Elena Caitlin Scott (pure)
Elena Beatrice Scott (she who makes happy)
Elena Kristin Scott (Christian)
Elena Joy Scott
Elena Caroline Scott (ladylike)
Elena Danielle Scott (God is my guide)
Elena Frances Scott (free-spirited)
Elena Emily Scott (industrious)

Other Elena-type names you might like-
Mileah, Daniella, Marissa, Elisa, Estella, Selena, Susannah, Alonna, Miranda, Juliana

Good luck! Ginger
Daniella

Hi,
I prefer Elaina/Elena with these middle names

Elaina Maire
Elaina Josette
Elaina Devon
Elaina Josianne
Elaina Kara

Good luck and Congratulations.

I prefer Elena (with my second choice being Alaina) with the ln Scott. Assuming you're pronouncing Alana like ah-lah-nah (vs. the long A in the middle in Alaina), I don't like the sound of Alana Scott. The same vowel sound repeated 4 times isn't as pretty to my ears.

Elena/Alaina Scott is great, though!

Some mn ideas...
Elena Jane Scott
Elena Rose Scott
Elena Marie Scott
Elena Simone Scott
Elena Corinne Scott
Elena Joy Scott
Elena Mae/May Scott
Elena Kathleen Scott

Good luck making a decision! And just out of curiosity, what boy's name have you chosen?

I have a little Elena -- it's a wonderful name!!!! Very elegant, yet works for a little pistol like mine. I think the spelling Alaina is pretty as well, but not as pretty as Elena.

I wanted to thank everyone for their comments and suggestions. There were many beautiful and elegant names posted. After reading your suggestions, I think we will go with Elena/Elaina instead of Alana (al-ah-nah).
I am think either Elaina Katherine or Elaina Camille. Have to discuss with hubby first.
If it's a boy we are going with John, after my husband.

I really love both Alaina and Alana. They are so pretty and underused. Either would be a great choice.

MN's:
Alaina Claire
Alaina Camille
Alaina Joelle

Alana Shea
Alana Corinne
Alana Macy

I absolutely love Elena Katherine and Elena Camille! I think I would choose Camille, but imo you really can't go wrong with either! I prefer the Elena spelling but the Elaina spelling is nice too.
