So I found an Irish name (last name is Flynn) that I thought we'd both like because it sounds new, but it's actually old.

Unfortunately, about a day later I remembered where I'd heard this name, and let's just say it isn't a positive reference for most people.

I'd love to know how many people think it is a good name and how many can't get past the famous person who had it. I'd particularly like to hear from people who have never heard of it before, since that's a good sign.

Girl's Name: Kinsey Elizabeth Flynn

THANKS!

I didn't make the connection because Kenzie/Kinsey is a quite popular girl's name where I am. So I relate it to the little girls I know. I actually know a Kenzie Elizabeth (age 16). I think the combo sounds very good, but I don't like the rhymey-ness of Kinsey Flynn. JMO. I agree with the PP who suggested other Irish K names that might sound better with your ln. But again, the combo of fn/mn sounds good to me. Good luck, Ginger

I can get by the association that I think I know what you're referring to - actually I think Kinsey is cute.

I'm not sure I like it with Flynn

Kinsey Flynn - say it to yourself without the Elizabeth in there because that's how she'll hear it 99 percent of her life, without her middle name. Kin and Flyn have the exact same vowel sound - as in "in" the door. it just doesn't flow well.

Kelsey - which I think also has Irish association, would sound much better with Flynn.

Delaney is an Irish name that's been getting some play lately (it's not as popular as this board makes it seem) It's only about 157th on the social security list.

good luck

I immediately thought about the famous sex research study - it's called something like the Kinsey-something study and the Dr. who ran it is Dr. Kinsey. I actually had no idea there was a movie coming out about him. I do think that might be one strike against you because it will heighten people's awareness of the association right around the time you have your baby.

On the other hand, sex isn't such a horrible thing to research. After all, that's how we got into the position of getting to name our babies in the first place!

Hey I like it! I've heard of it before, but don't know the famous person. I think it's close to Mackenzie and Lindsey, which are well liked names. So, I think it would be fine!

Sorry, it reminds me too much of the Kinsey Report on Human Sexuality. I just can't get past that. But even if it didn't remind me of the report, I'm don't like the whole unisex trend. Kinsey also reminds me of all of the McK names now used for girls, but with out the Mc. Just too many negatives going for me to even like it.

Thank you everyone for your suggestions. I like the Kelsey suggestion very much. I'll run it by DH. Right now, however, I am discovering that I had a chemical pregnancy, so I'm more than a little disappointed. But I'll still need a name, when it sticks, so thanks again!

I haven't read the other responses so sorry if I repeat:

First thing that pops into my head is The Kinsey Report on Human Sexuality. Especially with the Liam Neison film being released, I think that will be fresh on a lot of people's minds.

Secondly, not a big fan of surnames on girls unless there is a family relationship.

Thirdly, it sounds too much like all the other 1000 of "K" names out there lately.

Flynn is a fabulous last name! I am 100% Irish and married a man with a French last name, I am jealous of you! LOL! Elizabeth is one of my favorite names, classy and timeless. I'm sure you will find the perfect first name for your daughter. There are quite a few websites with Irish names, try looking at those. One of my favorite Irish names is Maeve. It is an old name but is really gaining in popularity, so fresh and traditional at the same time.

Best of luck.
