He Who Must Still Be Named

DH and I are really into LotR, Narnia, Harry Potter, etc. Our first two boys are named after characters from the Chronicles of Narnia: Caspian Philip and Emeth Owen. Today we found out we're expecting another boy and this time we're at a loss for names. We had a girls name picked out but there's not a lot of other boys names from that particular series that we like. DH dreamed a couple of weeks ago that we had a boy and named him Edmond Albert, but neither of us like the idea of shortening it to Ed or Eddy. I kind of like the name Diggory because it crosses fandoms with Harry Potter but it's hard to imagine an adult named Diggory. DH has said I can put the name Gwydion on my list. That one is from the Prydain Chronicles. DH said he would rather not use LotR names because of the popularity of the movie (otherwise i would use Theoden). So what do you think? did you ever read a book and think "that would be a great name but i would never have the guts to name my child that"? if so please give me some ideas. the middle name will probably be Albert or Stephen which are both family names. cara

I love it. I think it's a perfect match with your older boys. Thomas has always been a favorite of mine.
:-)
I was reading your posts with Annie, and I must agree, Gryphin sounds like a great choice! Gryphin Thomas I like a lot! I wouldn't worry about the spelling too much, as it has significance to you!

Okay DH put another name on the list. He found it in a baby name book and it's from the chronicles of Narnia and from Harry Potter.
Cornelius Albert Moore
DH really likes it and it's kind of growing on me too. Gryphin Thomas is still on the list, too.
coincidentaly Cornelius means 'horn'. and Albert (FIL) plays and teaches the trumpet.
what do you think?

Just saw this thread! I love the idea of chosing meaningful names from your favorite literature. I'm a big Narnia and HP fan myself. I read all the LOTR books too, but it's been a long while. Some thoughts:
Is Gryphin pronounced Griffin? If so, I'm afraid if you used it, 99% of people would assume you just named him Griffin with cre8iv spelling. Which is not what you're going for, I don't think. Just a thought. I like the look of the name though, and it does go well with your other boys. BTW, I LOVE Caspian!
The first thing I thought of when I saw your post are my two top boy names that DH did not approve:
Cedric and Phineas (nn Finn). Both are of course HP names, but also have been names in their own right for a long time. I also like Sirius, but that may be too obvious a HP connection, you know?
Cornelius is hard to picture on a little boy, but that's just because I haven't met one yet! Good luck!
Cornelius would probably be nn Neil or Eli.

I went to high school with a guy named Cornelius and most people called him Corny. He was really smart and involved in school. He embraced the nn.
I've been thinking more about Cornelius and here's what i've come up with.
In the book 'Prince Caspian' (which is being made into a movie and will be released Christmas of 2007) Cornelius is Caspian's teacher. He is a half-dwarf and in a time when most human Narnians have forgotten or chosen not to remember the talking beasts and magical creatures and even Aslan, Cornelius teaches the young prince about these things knowing that he will one day be king and restore Narnia to what it should be. When Caspian becomes king he makes Cornelius his Lord Chancelor.
We were thinking of the nn 'Eli' which is actually perfect. Eli in the bible was the teacher to the young Samuel who goes on to lead Israel back to their roots and give them their first (and second) king.
We also like that Cornelius means 'a horn' as the middle name we're going to use is Albert. Albert is my father in law and he plays and teaches trumpet. His birthday is June 25 and that's when we're hoping this little one will be born.
