HELP - 3 day old baby without a name
| Tue, 03-20-2007 - 8:17am |
Hi,
Well after thinking of names for 9 months I had my daughter 3 days ago. She's all I could ever wish for and more. I can't decide upon 2 different names. She'll either be Leah or Skylee. I really want to decide so I can start calling her by her name. My other children are Garrett and Sierra. Leah is sweet and traditional. Skylee is unique and cute. Which one do you like better or think would fit better in our family. I really need help!
Thank you,
Sarah

DEFINITELY Leah. It is gorgeous and pretty. Skylee just sounds odd to me.

I like Leah MUCH better. In fact, honestly, I don't care too much for Skylee.
Congrats!
Congrats on your little girl.
Between the two, definately Leah! It is a lovely name, cute on a baby and matures into adulthood. It goes great with her siblings names, especially Garrett. I would avoid another "S" name as well.
Enjoy your baby and let us know what you decide.

Congratulations! I'm sure she's beautiful and perfect, and I just know you are thrilled to have her.
As for the name dilemma...
Leah, without a doubt! It's a beautiful, timeless name that will suit her well at any age. It's cute for a little girl, spunky/sweet for a teen, and dignified/professional for an adult. It's not very popular, so she'll stand out in a crowd of Emmas/Haylies/Madisons. But it's a name that is easily recognized and pronounced and well known. It has a rich history and a regal meaning.
Skylee on the otherhand sounds like just another Kaylie/Kylie/Kira name. They all blur together making them seem trendy and dated rather than unique. It's a made-up name, so it has no history and no meaning. And because of the structure of the name (two-syllable, ends in "ee" sound) it sounds like like a nickname (Katie, Lizzie, Abby, Tommy, Nicky, Johnny, etc). Because nicknames are generally associated with children, the name will always have a juvenile feel to it. It might be cute for a little girl, but it could hinder a 22-year-old young woman trying to break into the workforce. If you find that you really love this name more than Leah, I'd strongly urge you to give her Skye or Skylar as a given name and make Skylee her nickname.
Leah by a mile. I think that one works for a baby and an adult alike, so will grow with her.
Instead of Skylee, I might suggest Skyler or Skyla as alternatives. Both have a more grown-up feel and you can use Skylee as a nn.
AJ, enjoying life with C.
I remember you listing lots of choices and had lots of posts leading up to this - I really really felt that Brenna was the best choice out all your posts
Leah is too traditional for Sierra
Skylee - I agree with pp - too childish for an adult - I do know three or four girls named Skyler - I think if you want this - you should name her Skyler and use Skylee as the nn so she can use Skyler if she wants when she's older and on official documents
I still think Brenna would be the best
good luck, congrats
