We are having a little girl and we have decided to name her Silvia after my husband's mother. Our problem is that I can't find the right name to go with it. nothing sounds just right. I will use silvia either way middle or first name as long as I can find something to go with it. it doesn't matter to us.

If anyone can help come up with some ideas I would really appreciate it.

our last name is Melvin.

Thank's,

rwmel

Hi. Silvia is such a pretty name to me, and very under-used. If you like nn, I think Silvie is great!

There are many common mn out there that sound good with Silvia to me, but personally I'd want to do something a little more different to go with such a beauty.

Here are the expected ones-

Silvia Grace Melvia, Silvia Lynn Melvin, Silvia Renae Melvin, Silvia Nicole Melvin, Silvia Michelle Melvin, Silvia Faith Melvin, Silvia Rose Melvin, Silvia Marie Melvin, Silvia Kate Melvin

A little less expected-

Silvia Hope Melvin, Silvia Rae Melvin, Silvia Danielle Melvin, Silvia Joy Melvin, Silvia Clare Melvin, Silvia Leigh Melvin, Silvia Erin Melvin, Silvia Elaine Melvin, Silvia Louise Melvin, Silvia Noelle Melvin, Silvia Jane Melvin, Silvia Leanne Melvin, Silvia Brooke Melvin, Silvia Caroline Melvin, Silvia Kathryn Melvin

Unexpected but beautiful, IMO-

Silvia Ansley Melvin, Silvia Collette Melvin, Silvia Lauren Melvin, Silvia Natalie Melvin, Silvia Corinne Melvin (cor-rinn), Silvia Heather Melvin, Silvia Brandice Melvin, Silvia Margaret Melvin, Silvia Rachel Melvin, Silvia Carys Melvin, Silvia Kristin Melvin

**Silvia Bridget Melvin**, *Silvia Beatrice Melvin*

Others- Silvia Charlotte, Silvia Simone, Silvia Kimberly, Silvia Allison, Silvia Jewel, Silvia Ginelle, Silvia Meredith, Silvia Miranda, Silvia Madelin

As mn-

Gretchen Silvia Melvin

Holly Silvia Melvin

Jocelyn Silvia Melvin

Eden Silvia Melvin

Carrie Silvia Melvin

Chloe Silvia Melvin

Did you suggest the name Halle silvia Melvin at the bottom as your favorite! I love that name! Would you pronounce it hailey or Hal-ley (halley barry?)! we are having twins and if one is a girl we are going to name her Halle Kathleen (pronounced hailey!) Everyone always bashes the spelling and says it will be pronounced wrong. But it is my husbands grandma's maiden name, and I think it looks beautiful that way! Kathleen is my mother-in-law. If kathleen wasn't a family name, I would use silvia for the mn. It sounds beautiful!

You've gotten some really nice suggestions so far. For some reason, Sylvia Patrice popped into my head, so I thought I'd throw it out there. Good luck. Sylvia is a beautiful name!

I think Silvia is lovely. My grandmother was Sylvia.

I like the suggestions of Silvia Rose & Silvia Patrice.

Actually, I meant to move it back up to the list and forgot! I think Halle is a gorgeous name. Unfortunately, to me, Halle is hal-ley and Hailey/Haley is the way to spell it for the pronunciation you are going for. Are you certain the maiden name, Halle, wasn't -hally? At any rate, your combo of Halle Kathleen is lovely. Great flow, either pronunciation. Good luck, Ginger

Some ideas:

Silvia Elizabeth Melvin.

Silvia Faith Melvin.

Silvia Grace Melvin.

Silvia Caroline Melvin.

Silvia Cathryn Melvin or Cathryn Silvia Melvin, nn Caty.

Silvia Ann Melvin.

Silvia Brooke Melvin.

Silvia Claire Melvin.

Silvia Jane/Jayne (different meanings) Melvin.

Silvia Ruth Melvin.

I tend to favorite/think of Silvia as a first name choice. I like the uniqueness of the name in today's society. I love the fact it would honor a family member.

BTW My SIL just named her baby Clayton Gage, but he goes by his mn, Gage. She loved both names, but Clayton Gage just flowed better than Gage Clayton. My brother and his son also go by their mns. Thus if the name flows better w/Silvia as the fn, you could call the child by its mn. Just an idea!

Good luck finding that perfect name!

Amy~mom to Patrisha Louise, Isabella Ruth & Lilybet Rhian; ages 12, 9 & 17 mos.

BTW I'd vote against using another name that ended in an a. JMHO and not meaning to hurt any feelings!
