We have a boy's name picked out...William Hardy. (Will) These are both family names. Our last name starts w/ "W" and is 2 syllables. We are having a very difficult time choosing a girls name. Some names on our list includes....

Vivian (Vivi)
Olivia (Livi)
Claire
Hope
Grace (Gracie)- husband's favorite, to trendy?
Charlize (Charli) - After great grandfather
Victoria (Tori)
Evie

What do you think? Girls names are so hard for me. I want something that will stand the test of time. I do not like names that popular and will be dated in 10 years. We are also trying to decide which is best...a name that gives a nn or one that doesn't.

Thanks for your input!

Vivian (Vivi) - I should like this name, but for some reason I do not. I do like Violet.

Olivia (Livi) - Livi is a cute nn, but I think that Olivia will sound dated in a few years. If you want something classic to match William, I would pick Elizabeth, nn Libby.

Claire - Great choice! Classic and if you decide you do not want a nn this is great. I also like Clara

Hope/Grace (Gracie)- husband's favorite, to trendy? I have posted about these names earlier and I still like Felicity, nn Fliss as an alternative!

Charlize (Charli) - After great grandfather - I do like honoring the grandfather - maybe a mn? I think Charlotte, nn Charlie works well too.

Victoria (Tori)- ok, not my favorite

Evie - This is too much of a nn - why not Evelyn, Eva, or Geneva?

I think that you have a great girls list! I like nicknames, but it is personal preference. Based on your list I would say that you like nn too :)

As far as other possible names:
Caroline, nn Caddy
Camilla
Iris
Ivy
Sara/h, nn Sadie (or just Sadie by itself)
Tessa

Do you think Hardy is too manly to use for mn for a girl? It is a family name (Maiden like) and I know that is a trend right now, using maiden names for mn, right?

Thanks for all of your help and suggestions!

hello!! well, i like evie for a nn-what about evelyn or eve for the full name and then evie as a nn? i like victoria-and grace. i think victoria grace would be pretty-and both are good classic names...or if you want to go the family route-what about charlotte instead of chalize. then you could still call her charli and have the family connection without having a trendy type name. i like the name will for a boy, but are you sure that you want to have the same intial as both the first and last name? remember you wont really call him by his full name unless hes introuble-lol-two w's might be a lil singsong-ish. jmo-good luck!!

I think that Hardy would work well as a mn. I really like the trend of using family names as mn.

OH...just b/c I have nn listed beside names doesn't mean that is what we will use. We are in a debate at the moment...use nn or not. Choose a name that has nn or not. My name does not have a nn and is a unisex name (which I hate). My dh has a very traditional boy name but does have nn. We find the meaning of a name to be very important as well. I think this is one of the most difficult decisions we will ever make. The child has to live with the name forever!
