I like Mason Alexander very much. In fact, it was one of my top five for my 2nd ds who ended up being Reece Anthony.

I am assuming you and the dad are not sharing the same last name and so this is why you want to use Mason Your maiden name as the baby's first name right? If so then yes Mason Alexader is a nice name :) And I dont think its wierd. My daughter is named after me and people think that is wierd but I love my name and if men can do it why cant women?

Not stupid at all ... I don't generally like the name Mason (sorry), but in this case I think it's a wonderful name!!

I also have to say that I whole heartedly agree with everyone who said that your MIL already had the chance to name a son ...

if you are still using Mason as your last name (either not married or didn't take your husband's name) then yes, that seems stupid to use Mason as a first name

if it's no longer really your name, then I'd say yes, go for it

Mason is much better than Tyler!! Stick to what you want. I had Mason on my boys list as a possibility and think it's adorable.
