Help me convince DH that Rory is a f nn.

He knows one male Rory and can not get past the fact that it is a "boys" name. I know here lots of you think it is a good nn for a girl (fn Dorothy) but he cant get past it.

Well, I also think of Rory as a boy's name, but I think it works fine as a girl's nn. I never watched Gilmore Girls, but knowing about it has helped me with that association. I also figure that Rory is very close to Lori, which is also a girl's name. It's also similar to Cori/Corey, which is unisex.
Another thought... plenty of girls are nicknamed Alex, Sam, and Charlie even though they have more feminine nicknames. Maybe he could think of Rory as just being one option for her as she grows up. And he could always call her by Dori or Dorothy. Nothing says that everyone has to use the same nn. My younger DD is Julianna, and we mostly call her Annie, but DH slips in a Julie now and then, and it's no big deal. I like that she has lots of options as she gets older.

I have never known a girl named Rory - I know there's the one in Gilmore Girls and there's a Rory Kennedy in the Kennedy
I know it's considered unisex in some circles, but because I've known several boys named Rory in my lifetime and no girls, it's hard for me to see it as girl
Dorothy is tough - I know you like it since you're going to use it, but it seems so old fashioned to me - I have never come across a child with that name in the last 20 years
Dora - because Dora the Explorer is seen as a little girl in the cartoon series, to me would be your best nickname bet
good luck
I agree with the Sam, Charlie, Alex nn analogy a pp mentioned (not sure if those were the ones listed). Basically, you could point out to him that lots of feminine names have more masculine nns -- especially those that are female forms of male names, like Samantha, Charlotte, Alexandra and, yes, Dorothy.
Here's a link to Baby Names of Ireland (a great site that's generally very accurate). They actually list the forms Ruari and Rori, but it still might help show him that it would certainly be fine as a girl's nn, KWIM? http://www.babynamesofireland.com/pages/girl-names-n-z.html
Dorothy has really grown on me a lot since you first started considering it, btw. ;) I think it's great, and fits in well with the current trend towards old-fashioned names without already being overly-popular. Very nice choice.

I know there's a Rory Kennedy--girl. Here's a link about her...

I think it can be either a girls name or boys name. Isn't there a female Rory Kennedy, one of RFK's kids?
Honestly, though, when I first hear Rory I think of a boy.
The OP actually WAS asking about using Rory as a nn (for Dorothy), not as the given name. ;)
