right now, i'm leaning towards Lucas or Luke. i'd welcome similar names also!

i feel i came to these names by simply eliminating other names and not because i feel solidly excited about these names.

can anyone encourage me that these are good names and that Lucas doesn't sound ugly or weird. please be encouraging!! and i appreciate any other suggestions!!
thank you!!

Hi,
I really like Lucas better than Luke. I also think with using Lucas, you could call him Luca (I really love this) or Luc. Good Luck. I you had any idea for middle names, I would be glad to help.

Good luck,

My son is named Luke and we always hear so many compliments about how great a name it is! We chose Luke over Lucas becsue we like the "no variation, no nickname" names (our other son is Jack - as a given name), but that's up to you if you prefer "option" type names. I do think Luke has a very different feel from Lucas (similar to the difference between Mark and Marcus), and is not really just a nickname for Lucas (like Mike is for Michael).

Good luck!

I love both of those names. If you name the child Lucas, chances are people might call him Luke anyway for short. So, I suppose it will depend on if you will insist on people calling him his proper name or if a nickname will be ok. :) If you want to bypass the formalities of saying, well his real name is Lucas but we call him Luke all the time, call him Luke. :) My name is Tina, my parents name call me Christina, although they liked the name, because they figured people would call me Chris or Tina instead of the full name, and thus decided on the short version anyway. :)

Best wishes to you!

Tina

I like Lucas a lot. Luke is OK to me, but I like Lucas much better. I'm not totally sure why, but Lucas seems a little bit more "refined" or something, more intelligent. I like that Lucas has options, like pp mentioned he could use Luca or Luc as nn's. I know I appreciated that as an Elizabeth- I could change my nn at different points in my life.

Good luck! I don't think you can go wrong with either, but Lucas totally GMV.

wow, each and every one of you that replied to my post was super helpful! such intelligent and terrific ideas and input.
i hugely respect the members of this board.

i'll keep you all posted as i ponder Luke vs. Lucas. i'm due in 6 weeks!!
the 2 names are surprisingly different and the 'real', legal name may matter in school and in work down the road... so i'll keep pondering!
thank you again!

I think that Lucas and Luke are great names, and if you decide that you like both, you can use Luke as a nickname for Lucas and have the best of both worlds. Lucas is not strange or weird, at all - I have always really liked the name and would include it on my list if I were having a boy. I knew a Luke when I was a kid, and I know a college-aged Lucas now - both nice kids, and to my knowledge no one ever considered their names strange. If you like Luke and Lucas, you might want to think, also, about Sam/Samuel, Matthew, Alexander or Alexei, Luca, or Liam.

Good luck!

I really love Lukas and wanted to use it this time if we have a boy but I decided it sounds too similar to Darius (my ds). I think it is a great name!!
