Help with names!! Particularly boy names

Hi everyone! I am brand new to this and was reading all your posts. I thought for sure you could be of help. I am expecting my first child early this spring. I am having a hard time coming up with a name, especially boy names. Even though I know I still have awhile, I am frustrated.
I really REALLY want a unique name because our last name is Smith, very common. I really like Mack, but Mack Smith is too short and plain. I can't figure out a name that I could use and call him Mack for short. There's McAlister or McCormick but I am not a huge fan of either of those. Any help??? Any other unique suggestions would be greatly appreciated too!
And one more question--if it is a girl I would like to name her middle name after my mother and best friend, Peggy. I have yet to find a first name that flows well with something Peggy Smith. Her name isn't Margaret nor does she have a middle name. It is just plain Peggy. Again, it has to be something a little different:) THANKS FOR YOUR HELP!

I know a guy who goes by Mac but his real name is MacArthur. Other ideas:
Maclean (or McLaine)
MacCoy
Mackinnley

Also, Peggy is a tough middle name!! Maybe you could use it as a first name, and then the child could go by the middle name. Here are a couple of suggestions of some not too common names...
Peggy Sage
Peggy Vienna
Peggy Jade
Peggy Danae
Peggy Avalon
Peggy Holland

If you want it as a middle name, it might work to use just Peg...that's might be easier to pair with a first name? Here are a couple I could think of:
Harley Peg
Callie Peg
Janessa Peggy
Mali Peg
Raena Peg

I hope that sparks and idea of you!! :)

Congratulations on baby #1! I love the name Cormac. You could call him Mac. For girls the first thing that can to mind is Olivia Peggy Smith.

I have a friend who named his son McKay (after his father) and they call him Mack. I
think it is so cute.

Peggy is difficult to incorporate into a name. Have you though of choosing a name that starts with the letter P. I know people that have done that to honor their family. Or, does your mom have a maiden name that could work as a middle name? Just some suggestions.

I did see on a couple of websites that Peggy means "pearl". I think that Pearl is a darling little girls name! You could use it as a first name or as middle name like Caroline Pearl or Emma Pearl. Thought that might help!!

Thanks! Pearl IS a beautiful name I think, I could work with that a lot easier :) One of my favorite first names is Cicely. I think Cicely Pearl sounds really cute! Does Cicely Smith have too much of an "sssss" sound to make it a difficult name though? Just wondering your opinion.

I feel your pain. My last name used to be smith. Jenny smith of all things, cant get more generic than that. LOL This is a long shot but how bout Macaveli. I dunno I heard it and thought it was kinda neat. There was a painter or something with that name, and also it's the name of one of the dogs on Cliford the big red dog. It's unique and I think it sounds good and It will cancel out the plainness of smith. :)

Glad you like Pearl! I think it is adorable! I know one little girl named Pearl and she is beautiful with light blonde hair and the name just fits her perfectly! I do think that Cicely Smith might be a little difficult to pronounce (especially if someone has a lisp) but Cecilia Pearl is cute and not so difficult to say. Here are a few other suggestions:

Cecilia Pearl
Lydia Pearl
Josephine Pearl
Beatrice Pearl
Amelia Pearl
Annabelle Pearl
Isabella Pearl
Olivia Pearl

I think that all of those sound very cute and feminine! Let us know what you decide!

Just lurking here but wanted to mention that my husband's uncle's name is Murdoch and he goes by Mac. Our last name is also MacPherson, but I'm pretty sure that the Mac nickname is for his first name and not just the last name. Murdoch is an old Scottish name. I don't know what it means but the family is half Scottish and they're very proud of their heritage.

Hope that helps!
