Help naming baby #3.

We are expecting a surprise baby in September (I know I have awhile to go, but thinking on names already!). We have a daughter Chloe Elizabeth (7) and a son Owen Daniel (2). We like the name Molly but the middle name is up for question. We like Susannah a lot and wonder if that goes with Molly? Also my middle name is Ann and my DH's is Leon and it may be neat to combine them and use Leann as a middle name. Which sounds better Molly Susannah or Molly Leann? Or any other ideas? For boys we want to use Robert as a middle name after my Dad. We really like Carter for a first name. Does Carter Robert have a nice sound to it? Then, to throw out another crazy idea, our little pet nicknames for Chloe and Owen are Chlo and O, which of course rhyme (we didn't do that on purpose!). I've tried to think of names whose nicknames would rhyme with Chlo and I but can't. The only one is Lola, nn Lo (pronounced like lo) but my husband doesn't say Lola like I do, he runs the first part together as lol-a instead of lo-la. How do you say it? I think of the cartoon Charlie and Lola and they say it like I do. Anyway! I'm open to other names too and do Molly and Carter go with Chloe and Owen? Any thoughts?

Thanks!
Jacque

Congratulations! I am very partial to Molly, as this is my name and I have always loved it! My middle name is Kathleen. Anyway, regarding your mn choices, I think Molly Susannah sounds great. Leann is a beautiful too, but after Molly it sounds a little heavy on the L's. Molly is nice paired with Chloe and Owen, as is Carter. Carter Robert is a very strong name, sounds good. I wouldn't choose a name by trying to rhyme a nn with the other nn's in the house, especially if that means naming a little girl Lola pronounced anyway. But I can recommend a very nice name that would rhyme. A friend named her little girl Rowan, it is Irish, a little different and in my opinion a gorgeous name. Would go well with your other two, and you'd have Chlo, O and Ro! How cute! Another quick thought, with Molly, I suppose you could call her Mo! Let me know what you think!

I think Molly and Carter both go with Chloe and Owen, they sound really good together.
I prefer Molly Susannah to Molly Leann because there seems too many 'Lee' sounds the second one.
Carter Robert sounds a good combination to me - both strong names.

Names with 'O' sounding nns:

Girls:
Joanna/Josephine/Joanne - Jo
Ramona/Mona - Mo
Lois - Lo
Rowan - Ro

Boys:
Bo
Joseph - Jo
Rowan/Ronan - Ro

Ok, with regard to Carter Robert...I don't like it. I don't like it when a first name ends with the same sound as the mn begins with...it makes them run together. Also, Robert is a very classic name and Carter is a very trendy name so to me, their styles don't match. I prefer Carter Drake or William Robert (see what I mean in terms of style?)

On to Molly! A precious name! I don't particularly like it with Susannah or Leann though (although I like Susannah and Leanne independently). I had a friend who named her little girl Molly Miranda, which was a huge hit (her Molly is now about 12). I can also see:

Molly Madeline
Molly Elizabeth
Molly Angelica
Molly Annabel
Molly Evangeline
Molly Frances
Molly Belle
Molly Bronwyn

I love Molly, it's always been a favorite of mine. Susannah is also a favorite of mine (though personally I prefer the Susanna spelling). Molly Susannah is really nice. Leeann is nice for sentimental reasons, but I'm not a huge fan of it on its own merits. And you could call her "Mo" for a nn if you wanted to keep up the rhymes. I also like the suggestion of Rowen a lot. And I love Lola. I pronounce it as you do, I've never heard anyone say Lol-a before. Have you pointed out (nicely) that he's pronouncing it wrong? Maybe he could train himself to say it correctly. Molly Susannah and Rowen Susannah are really nice. Lola Susannah sounds rhymy though since they both end in A. Maybe Lola Susanne?

For a boy, I like both Carter and Robert, but together they slur because Carter ends with R. So it winds up sounding like Carterobert. What about Nolan? I love that name, it fits perfectly with your kids, and Nolan Robert is really nice. And you could call him "No".

How cool that your name is Molly! LOL I agree with everything you said, and I never even thought of Mo as a little nickname. Good idea! I also love Rowan as a girl but unfortunately have a little cousin who is a boy named that.

Thanks so much for your thoughts!

Well, I prefer Molly Susannah to Molly Leann...but I do like your thought behind combining your middle names to make Leann.

I am really not a big fan of Carter Robert either...but I think that is just because of the double "R" sound.

Here are a few suggestions:

Girls:
Molly Jo (use Jo for your nn)
Zoe (could be too matchy, matchy since you already have a Cloe, but nn Zo)
Of course the nn for Courtney is CoCo

Boys:
Logan Robert (you could use Lo for your nn)
Carter Davis
Colby or Colton (use Co for your nn)
Noah (use No for you nm... ha ha)

I love Carter, but would it bother you that two kids have names that start with a C and the other doesn't? I know it would bother me. I like the idea of using Leann as a mn, but it doesn't flow well with Molly (too many L's). Molly doesn't age well anyways though. How about Emma Leann, Sage Leann, Sophie Leann, or Jasmine Leann? I think Lola is very sweet. I like it a lot.

It does bother me a bit with two kids having names that start with the same letter and not the other. I'm glad you mentioned it because I didn't know if it was just me. We defintely haven't decided for sure on Carter, it's just a name we like. We know too many Emmas and Sophies but I do love Sage, dh isn't crazy about it. I mentioned it when I was pg before. Jasmine isn't really my style but I do love Lola too. Dh likes it too. I'd just have to make him say it the right way. ;-)

Thanks for your thoughts!
