Hello, I've never posted on here before, but am looking for hones opinions and am hoping you can help.
We have it finally narrowed down to 2 girls names and 2 boy names. I am down to 5 days until my due date. We don't know what we are having.
Girl:
Grace Sylvia
Sylvia Kate
Boy:
Emory James
Samuel Thomas
Girls: I know Grace is popular, but there doesn't seem to be many in our area, so that doesn't bother us so much. Sylvia is my husband's first choice, but I am not completely convinced. It is the middle name of his grandmother who turned 92 last Sunday.
Boys: We love Sam/Samuel however, we do know a few people who have named their son this (extended circle of friends that we don't see often), but enough where I question it a smidge. Also, we still love the name Emory (a family name from several generations back, but we are a little concerned that some girls are being names this and that it will seem feminine. Anyway, I would welcome any help/opinions!!!! I can take honesty. Thanks so much!

Another member on this board has been struggling with the name Grace. It is popular and while she may not encounter any growing-up, most likely in college and work she will find another Grace. Personally, I love the name Grace despite its popularity. I think that Grace, unlike Madison, Alexis, or Taylor, has staying power.
In regards to the name Sylvia - I do think it is pretty, but I think it is "heavy" for a child. For that reason I would go with Grace Sylvia.
Boy: Samuel all the way. Unfortunately Emory has gone to the girls.
Hi there. Congrats on your pregnancy!
I really really really like Sylvia Kate. It's uncommon & classy for any age. Sylvie is also a very sweet nn. Grace is okay, but it really is generally over done. I don't care for the flow of Grace Sylvia either. Sylvia is refreshing. Although I really love Sylvia Kate, I suppose that Sylvia Grace would be a nice compromise.
Emory & Samuel are both nice names. I prefer Emory just a bit, because Samuel is so common. However, it does sound an awful lot like Emma/Emily to people who aren't such name scholars, LOL. Sam might be a safer bet, but it's really up to you. I personally wouldn't do Emory as a fn. Samuel Emory would be nice.
Hope this helps!
Girl:
Grace Sylvia -- I don't like these two together ... the S sounds at the end of Grace and beginning of Sylvia run into one another too much for me (although I love that Sylvia is for your dh's grandmother, so I could ignore it). ;) Grace is nms, to be honest.
Sylvia Kate -- I much prefer this combo. Sylvia is old-fashioned (but that fits with the current trend, so it's not dated IMO), the nn Sylvie is spunky and the mn Kate gives her a more modern option if she wants one. Very nice. ;)
Boy:
Emory James -- I love Emory! I honestly can't recall hearing this name on a girl EVER. Emerson (meaning "son of Emery/Emory" LOL), yes, but not Emory. Even if you someday met a girl named Emory, she'd be the one with the masculine name -- it wouldn't make your son's name LESS masculine, KWIM? Just like girls named Ryan, Michael or Jeffrey don't automatically indicate those names are "going to the girls." If it still worries you, however, you could use another form or similar name to honor Emory. Emeric or Emmet(t), for example.
Samuel Thomas -- nice, "safe" choice. As you said, Samuel/Sam is popular. Not to the point of Jacob, at least in my area, but he might have another in his class. You just have to decide what level of popularity you're comfortable with. I like it, but it doesn't hold the same appeal as Emory, IMO.

I like the name Grace but am not too crazy with how it flows with Sylvia as a middle name. I think I like it better the other way: Sylvia Grace,... and I do like Sylvia Kate- it's sounds cute... For boys names, I prefer Samuel Thomas- I'm not too fond of Emory James... however, I do like James Emory, lol... sorry for switching them around, that's just my personal style...
Best of luck! :-)
Girl:
Grace Sylvia- Maybe Grace isn't popular in your area, but eventually she will move out of the area and it is REALLY popular... Also, Grace Sylvia doesn't flow very well as the "s" sounds blend together
Sylvia Kate- Gorgeous. I love Sylvia, it is beautiful and uncommon.
Boy:
Emory James- Hmm... I love that it is a family name and it does have a masculine feel to it, but I have heard it more on girls. I think I like it for a boy too though. I love Avery and Rowan, and unfortunately they are going to girls too :(
Samuel Thomas- a strong, if popular, classic

I love Grace, of course it's popular but it isn't popular EVERYWHERE, and if that doesn't bother you than its fine. I personally don't think it flows that well with Sylvia but how often do you use the full name? Plus, I think it could flow with the right last name. Sylvia Kate is cute, but Sylvia just isn't a name that I am extremely fond of.
I like both your male choices, Samuel is my favorite though. Emory is really cute too and a little different so it just depends if you want something less common than Emory is your choice. As for girls with this name I don't know any, I think Avery or Emerson (oddly) are more popular for girls than Emory in my opinion.
hope that helps alittle~
