Help...Addison or Madelyn???

I am in need of un-biased opinions. My husband and I can't agree on a first name for our daughter (due 4/07). We do, however, agree on a middle name, Grace. Our top choices are Addison Grace or Madelyn Grace. Grace was left over from our list of names last time - we have a son, Colin, who will be 2 in January. Addison Grace was our first choice, but we keep hearing comments wondering if we are considering naming our daughter after Grey's Anatomy.

Please give me your honest opinions!!! Another concern is that Addison is going to be a very popular name in a few years, whereas Madelyn is common, but may not be as popular. Our family hasn't been any help - they score is tied at the moment.

TIA!!!

Ashley

I like Addison for a boy, but not for a girl, and do think it will become very popular soon because of Grey's.

Madeline (Madelyn) is really popular in my area. I know many girls five and under with this name.

Other suggestions with similar feels:

Jacqueline
Marilyn
Rosalyn
Jocelyn
Joelyn
Carolyn

My son is almost 3 and at his day care center and I see a lot of both names. I personally know 2 Addisons and 3 Madelyns in my circle of friends and family.

I think both are very popular and you should just go with what you like best.

Wow! That was too crazy! I had just logged onto the board for the first time and yours was the first post I read. We are naming our child Madelyn Grace if it's a girl. I'm only 11 weeks now but wow! I love tthat name!

I encourage you to use madelyn rather than Addison (which is getting terribly popular and is very masculine to me). I prefer the sp Madeleine or Madeline to Madelyn...have you considered those?

I personally prefer Madelyn ( love this spelling) over Addison. HOWEVER both are very popular right now. nn Addie and nn Maddie- hear them everywhere. Grace is so beautiful...wont you consider it for a fn? I love the nn Gracie!!!

I personally prefer Madelyn, and I think Madelyn Grace is lovely.

I think both names will be pretty popular, especially given how close they are to the super-popular Madison. Also, Grace seems to be one of the most popular middle names right now, so she could even encounter another Addison Grace or Madelyn Grace at some point.

Some other names you might like that I don't think are quite as popular...
Megan/Meghan
Avery (although Ava is very popular right now)
Marissa
Caroline
Evelyn (although again, it's similar to Ava, which is popular)
Marilyn
Lydia
Annabel

Good luck making a final decision!
Stephanie, mom to Megan Joy (nn Meg) and Julianna May (nn Annie)

I still think of Addison as a boy's name & I dislike masculine names on girls. Therefore I automatically vote for Madelyn.

You're right about Madelyn being popular & you're also right that Addison is becoming very popular on girls as well. Popularity is almost a moot point here because of the popularity of both names.

To sway my vote further, I think Madelyn goes better w/ sib Colin than Addison.

I think the spelling of Madelyn is terribly trendy and will not age well. I much prefer the traditional spellings of Madeleine or even Madeline over Madelyn.

Hi there, Ashley. Congrats on #2!

I completly 100% vote for Madelyn. Addison is *so* trendy right now. They're everywhere, & the Greys Anatomy thing will only get worse. Madelyn is popular, but at least it's a feminine classic. AddiSON seems like it should be a boy name, imo.

Hope this helps!

P.S.-I really love the name Colin. :)

Although I prefer Addison, I think Madelyn would be a better choice for you. It sounds so sweet with Colin.

Both names are very popular, so I wouldn't make trendiness the deciding factor if I were you. Good luck!
