Hi fellow baby namers!

Husband and I are going back and forth over names for a girl. Keep in mind that we are not PG yet, but are planning on starting soon! YEAH!

I love the name Lola because it is so feminine and uncommon, yet simple and pretty sounding,
(I think this embodies womanly qualities.)

DH hates it, and everytime we talk about it, he just starts singing the song to me, saying he doesn't want his daughter to be a showgirl or a transvestite. lol

We are going back and forth on this one, but I simply love it because of it's meaning.
It means womanly or a morning dew cloud. (clouds have a significant meaning for my personal relationship with God.)

Question is...should I fight for it, and try to persuade Hubby to view it different, or will everyone sing this stupid song to her, for her entire life...sigh.

I still just really love this name, even with all the negative association in the past, I noticed the name is upswinging that by becoming more popular with celebrities.

I need help!
Thanks everyone!

HI Jessica -
Lola Grace is a great name. I understand your dilema. My DH an I had similar issues, but about mn. We didn't completely decide until after our daughters were born and usually
he gave me the final ok b/c I just went through labor.

If you over push it, he'll probably hate it more & more.
I'd come up with a list that you like and once you are pregnant- bring up the name again.

Here a few other name options for you.

Liliana nn/ Lola
Lourdes nn/Lola
Louisa nn/ Lola

Deloris /nn Lola (nms)

or use Lola for MN...

Diane Lola
Michelle Lola
Erin Lola
Therese Lola
Grace Lola

or religious meaings

Johanna - meaning God's Grace
Celeste - meaning Heavenly
Celia - meaning Heavenly
Gabrielle/a - meaning Hero of God
Eliana - meaning God has answered (this you could have nn Lola)
Samantha - meaing God heard

HTH, Let's talk again :-)
Donna
mom to Alexandra, Samantha & Gabriella

I went through the exact same thing recently. I wanted to name my daughter Laila Louise (and call her Lola as a nick name), but he wouldn't hear of it. He kept making fun of me even though I've been hearing the name more and more lately. Finally, I just gave up and ended up compromising (which means I hated every name he liked for a while). Maybe if you two just look around some more, you'll be able to find something that is equally meaningful to you, both of you.

I think Lola is darling and I really like it (particularly as a nickname for something more formal).

I love the name Lola, but yes, people will probably sing that song to her a lot. The question is, does it really matter to you? I personally love the name Fiona, but DF says no because of that song "Scotty Doesn't Know" from the movie Eurotrip. I don't care, but there is no convincing him and unfortunately he gets a say in the naming decisions.

Thanks for the advice girls.

I think that I am going to hang in there on this one because it is what I have loved for just about ever. I have done searches for that meaning and none of the names were even remotely possible.
I am considering the ones that Hubby has tossed around, it is just that I love Lola. It is just so fun to say as well.
I guess we will see what comes about, but both of us are for some reason certain that we will have a girl first.
(Even though we would like a boy.)
I will make a name poll soon.

Thanks again!

I personally like the name as well. I don't know what bad association it would have with it or what song you are referring to. I think that the personal reason that you have for wanting to use the name is wonderful. It will make you love the name even more once she gets here. So yes I think that it is definitely worth fighting for. Or another name that would be similiar would be Layla or Lilah.

Lola Grace is BEAUTIFUL!

Lola is NMS but it is a cute name. I highly doubt anyone her age is going to know that song. Yeah sure older people are probably familar with it but most adults have more tack than to start singing that song to a child. If you love it GO FOR IT!

HTH!
