Would you say it like the short name "Ava" Lynne?? I also looked in my book of names and this is not listed but Aveline is... would that be pronounced with a short "a" like "Avenue" but a long "i"??

I would pronounce "Avalyn" with a short "a" as in "avenue".

Av- a- lin
Av- a- leen

Phonetically, both would start with a short a sound, like in cat. I prefer the second spelling and pronounciation.

I would pronounce Avalyn with the short A (as in Avalon, but substituting -lyn). It is the same spelling as the name Ava, however, and if you wanted it pronounced this way that would work fine too, IMO. Either way you might have to correct people once in a while as to how you pronounce it but that's really no big deal.

We're actually considering Aveline for baby girl #3, but would use the Anglicized pronunciation (short a) av-uh-line - exactly like Adeline with a V. The Irish pronunciation would actually be ayv-leen or I've-leen (not a short a).

I like both names! Good luck! ;)

Avalyn and Avaline would both start as in "avenue". Avalyn would end as in -lyn and Avaline would end as in -leen.

JMO! :)

I would pronounce it with a short a like avenue and "lyn" at the end.
