My co-worker named his daughter Carys and they pronounce it like Paris with a C.

Just to add to the confusion, my book of Welsh names lists the pronounciation as "KAHR-ees." :)

I've seen the pronunciation of the first syllable like the beginning of "carry" or like the word "care" (truly, car-ys and care-ys sound nearly identical when I say them -- I'm in PA, if that helps -- but I've seen it written out both ways).

Like a couple of posters above, I am on the "rhymes with Paris" team :D. Actually, I really like this name a lot, especially spelled this way, but I have a first cousin name Karis (rhymes with Paris lol) and wouldn't use Carys, regardless of the different spelling. It's very pretty, though!

CARE-iss. I love the name, so pretty and underused.

Rhymes with Paris. You might also like Charis -- same pronunciation, but Greek origin, meaning something like 'grace' (like the grace of God, I think, not of a ballet dancer).
