We like the name Kailie but are unsure if it will be pronounced correctly. How would you pronounce it?

My reactions, in order:
1) Is that Callie with a K?
2) Oh, that must be like Kaylee.
3) Or could it be like Kylie?

I would probably say Kaylee.

but the 'kail' like 'vail' as in CO would that not be like 'Kale lee'...almost like a different sort of pronunciation of 'kelly'. if you were looking for it to very much say 'kelly'-use kelly or 'kaylee' use kaylee....but i am thinking that spelling might bring issues as it already has for you.

It is pronounced KAY-lee... sometimes mashed together like KAYL-ee (only a slight difference). I would strongly recommend not using the name for 3 reasons:

1) There are multiple different spellings and it will be getting constantly misspelled: Kaylea, Kailie, Kaylie, Kailea, Caylie, Cailie, Cailea.

2) It is very cutesy and doesn't age well at all- (Can you picture anyone over age 10 named this???)

3) It is part of a huge trend and will date your daughter to these couple of years (think Lynn, Nicole, Stephanie, etc.) There are so many similar names in the trend- Kayla, Kiley, Kyla, Kyra, Bailey, Shailey, Railey, Ailey, etc. They all kind of run together and become boring.

As another option, how about Aila nn Ailey. Or even Abigail nn Aila/Ailey. I think that has a much more mature sound and doesn't seem so trendy.

Thought of another similar option for you... Calista, Calla, or Calliope nn Callie ("CALL-ee")

Admittedly, Kailie (this spelling) is my BIL & SIL's hyperactive, mentally-ill, must-eat-carpet dog. I'm assuming you want it to be pronounced kay-lee, since that's how they pronounce it, but I find all of the i's visually confusing and I'm thinking of Kali, the Hindu goddess connected with death and destruction. I'd probably simplify it to Kaylee but I do find it a bit cutesy for a grown woman...but she will be in company with other grown woman with similar names, as the Brandys of previous generations have been.

I would think it was an alternate spelling of Kaylee.

My understanding is the "ai" is pronouced as a Long "I".
So I would say "Kii- lee".
But since many of the pp disagree, I guess that answers your question that people will pronounce it different ways.

To me it looks like Kay-Lee. Although I do know someone that named their little girl Kailie and it was pronounced Ky-Lee.
