I pronounce it less like Rally and more like RAW-lee. Since it's a surname and a place name, I suppose it's unisex. Sounds very masculine to me, though, and I think it would feel out of place on a girl.
I've always pronounced it RAW-LEE - like the bicycle brand - with the way names are these days I'm sure it could go either way - but I've only ever heard it on guys - I've come across only 2 or 3 over the years - not little kids recently or anything
either way, I think it's much much much too close to the ultra-popular Riley (with a million alternate spellings, Rileigh, Rylie, Rylee, Reily, Reilly, Ryleigh etc) - and it's equally popular for boys and girls
Thank you guys for all the replies! My husband adores the name Rally for a girl and I was trying to think of a more formal way to spell it. We already have two daughters named Angelina and Morgan. Can you think of any names that Rally could be a nickname for? I already tried Gabrielle, but he thinks that's too far a stretch.
Esmeralda could have Rally for a nickname. Or you could simply choose a first name starting with R plus a middle name that lends itself to "Ally," such as Ruby Alexandra or Rebecca Allison. R. Ally = Rally?
Regardless, I would avoid Raleigh, since, as previous posters have said, it's pronounced RAH-lee/RAW-lee, rather than Rally.
