I heard a name today (on Go Diego Go which we don't really watch often) and I'm not sure how to spell it. I actually LOVE the flow of this name and it's the first girl's name I've liked.

A (ah is father) Lee (as in Lee or Leigh) C (the letter C) a (ah as in father)

I thought it might be spelled Alicia or Alissa. But, Alicia is usually pronounced like A LEE SHA, as in Alicia Keys

So, I was wondering if I missed the spelling or if it's the same name just two different pronunciations.

What do you think? How would you spell it?

Deven, homeschooling mommy of Kol, Jul, Elle, Liv & baby #5 due 11/16. Three Sweethearts in Heaven;

;-P Not bad for 11 years of marriage!

I like Alicia too but she'd probably be correcting people's pronunciation all the time.

I actually know someone with this name and she spells it Alika. Is that the sound that you wanted Ah-lee-c-ah. HTH!

I've seen Alicia mostly. I also worked with a Russian girl who spelled it Alecia.

I think it's spelled the same way. Just like Alicia Silverstone...she pronounces it that way.

That is the traditional Spanish pronunciation of the name Alicia. It's a fairly well-known pronunciation, and with the popularity of the Dora/Diego empire, I think it will be even more recognizable. You'll probably have plenty of people who see Alicia on paper and pronounce it A-leesh-a, but a simple correction should do the trick. I would DEFINITELY not change the spelling. I think that would make it even more confusing.

I would pronounce Alicia as 'a-lee-sha' until corrected.
