How do you like your OWN name?

As I'm stressing about names, I'm wondering how my child will like his/her name as he/she gets older. I think it'd be interesting to hear from everyone - how did your parents do in naming YOU?

I'll start - My name is Heidi LeAnn, and while I liked the fact that there were no other "Heidi's" in my class, I got tired of references to a swiss girl skipping through the alps crying for her grandfather. :) I also think that Heidi Ann would have been better than with the extra syllable "Le" - it just seems to flow a little better.

How about you ladies?

My Little Man.  His name is Kaleb Pershing - we call him KP.

My name is Melissa and while I never totally disliked it - I didn't like how I was always one of MANY Melissa's born in the 1970s. My middle name is Lynn. VERY BORING! lol

My mn is Ann and my brother and father call me Annie. I guess when I really think about it I'd much prefer my first name Terra. They've always called me that so it's something that goes unnoticed.

Well, my name WAS Trisha for a day... then my mom decided without consulting anyone that it just didn't fit and renamed me Denise Ann. Ann is my mom's name, which I liked, although many girls in the 70s have it as a "filler" mn. Denise was always good - I was the only one in my class and it really couldn't be nicknamed. My DH sometimes calls me Dee, but nobody else ever shortened it. Funny how all these names just don't seem to be around anymore! How many little Jennifers have you met and that was the MOST popular names when we were growing up!

My name is Elizabeth Jane and I've always loved it. Normally, I go by Liz, or Lizzie, but I love having a classical name.

One of the other things I really love about my name is the connection I have to my Mom. I don't know whether this was intentional or not, but her name is Jane Elizabeth. It always felt so cool to know that my name was hers flipped around. When the time comes for me to name my daughter, while I don't think I'll switch around again, I'm definitely gonna use Elizabeth as her middle name, to kinda pass along the tradition.

My name is Katherine Mills, and I love it! It's a classic. It never gets misspelled or mispronounced. Also there are so many variations and nicknames, but I'm still the only one I personally know who actually uses Katherine. My middle name is Mills after my grandfather. When I was little I didn't like having a boys name as my middle name, but now it means a lot to me.

I'm also stressing over names, so this is interesting. I plan to give our DD (who we're adopting), Katherine as her middle name. We always do family names for mns, and everything else in our families is either ugly or over-used.

I always thought "Elizabeth Ann" was the signature combo of the 70s :)

My name is Adrianne (prounounced Aid dree ann). I have always loved my name and get a lot of compliments on it. It seems very feminine to me! My dad actually picked it and my mom gave in. She can't even remember which name she even wanted for me now! I think that my name totally fits me and the only thing that bothered me growing up was that none of the fun girl stuff that already had names on them like stickers and signs, etc. had my name or had spelled it correctly. My sisters name is Amy and her name was all over the place! It does frustrate me when people pronounce it Adrienne (Aid dree en). I equate it to the difference between Marion and Marianne. Two totally different names! I oftentimes get Andrea, Adrianna, Adrina, all sorts of weird names! It actually got me out of a speeding ticket one time because the cop liked my name so much!!! I don't have a middle name because my maiden name is long and with Anne in there I guess my parents just figured that they had covered that. I legally made my maiden name my middle name when i got married so now I feel like part of the crowd! I have never actually met anyone else with my name. I have seen it once or twice my entire life but have never met anyone else with it. I love that!

My name is Mary Alice. Marys have always been all over our family tree and Alice was my father's mother.

When I was a child I hated my name. All of my friends had "cool" names like Kim and Patty and Maria and Cindy!! LOL! And I thought Alice was just horrible, what an old lady name.

Now that I am much older and wiser I really like my name. I love that I have Alice in my name as my grandmother was a fabulous woman who meant the world to me. She passed away when I was 20 and I am thrilled that I had 20 years with her. I never thought I would love the name Mary but now I do. It is simple and perhaps dull but oh so sweet. I love when I hear it on a little girl now, it is so refreshing from all the Mc names!

There's my story!!!

Hi,
My name is Joanna Bradley..and it's grown on me - but didn't really like it as a kid. I was always called Joanne, and had to (still have to) correct people. Johanna was my great grandmothers name (from Sweden like the previous poster). So I was named after her without the 'h' (which I prefer). Bradley is my other great grandmonther;s maiden name. A 'boy's' name that i really do like now. I like the fact that I had a lot of nicknames too: J, JJ, Jo, JoJo, Joey, Josie, and my Dad called me Josephine (not exacly close or a shortened version of my name either!). I feel like my name has a classic feel that stands the test of time which I do like and that it's not too popular.
