How do you like your OWN name?

As I'm stressing about names, I'm wondering how my child will like his/her name as he/she gets older. I think it'd be interesting to hear from everyone - how did your parents do in naming YOU?

I'll start - My name is Heidi LeAnn, and while I liked the fact that there were no other "Heidi's" in my class, I got tired of references to a swiss girl skipping through the alps crying for her grandfather. :) I also think that Heidi Ann would have been better than with the extra syllable "Le" - it just seems to flow a little better.

How about you ladies?

I actually like my name tho it gets "bad reviews" on the boards ;). I am Randee Ruth. Named for a great grandmother and a great aunt. I was going to be Rachel or Rebecca, but my mom didn't like the nn Becky and my dad didn't like the nn Shelly which they were afraid I would get. I like the 2-e spelling and even with the meaning of RANDY I like it. I especially like my middle name though it has rarely been used for anything other than documents. I often get Renee, Brandi or when I spell it for someone it can come out with 2ds 2ns ...I think the double e really throws people. But I get compliments on it all the time. I didn't always like my name...for the reason a lot of people our age didn.t'''I couldn't find it on any stickers/mugs/etc!@

Thanks, ladies - these were all very interesting to read!! It sounds like I don't have a whole lot to worry about...if we all end up comfortable with our names at least, I don't think I can go wrong. Thanks so much for sharing, and keep 'em coming if you haven't posted already! :)

My name's Miranda Lee. I've always hated it. Although it is rare and in school and at work I've only had to deal with one other Miranda, I've just always felt it sounded so old. I do like Lee though.

Great topic! My name is Jennifer June and I hated it growing up because I was one in a ton of other Jennifer's. Plus everyone in my family called me Jenny, which, in 6th grade I changed to Jeni just to stand out a little. Today I love it and go by Jennifer. I still really dislike my middle name (named after my grandmother), I am always thankful we don't have to use our middle names in society very often. I think the name is too old and dated. Plus as a kid my family called me Jenny June bug (they thought it was cute, I hated being referred to as a bug:) I think women come to terms with their name over time but I would love to hear from the guys. My son is 12 years old and his name is Gage, he absolutely loves it! He tells me that all the time. He has 3 Jack's, 2 Andrew's ect in his school and they all really like his name. So it seems if you go for unique or classic, we all eventually adjust :)

I am Casey Jean and When I was little like under 5 I loved my name, and I loved being called C.J. which was always something I loved to be called. When I got a little older I didn't like it b/c I had a boy in my school with that name and I thought it was a boys name. Now I love my name b/c I really don't know anyone else, over 5, with that name and It is different...also everyone seems to think b/c of my name I am from the south, but I am not. It never bothered me that they thought I was from the south but I guess it sounds like I was...idk...Anyway now I like my name and I would never change for anything...My Husband calls me Cass, which I know isn't really a nickname for Casey, but he does and It has always been our thing...my brothers and sister call me C.J. and my parents call me Casey or my full name Casey Jean...So I guess all in all, god job mom and dad!!!

I hate my first name, but then again I have went through 20 years of having to spell it out, and also having to deal with the "You have got to be kidding, that's your name?" thing for most of my life.

My middle name is soo common that I swore I wouldn't never give it to any of my own children, and thus far I have kept that promise..

My name is Latosha Marie..

I was named after a woman that my aunt knew back in the 70's..

Uncommon, yes..

Nice, well depends on who you are.

My name is Elaine Bernadene, and I love my name. Both names were names my father loved; Elaine also happens to be the middle name of my mother and grandmother (though I was not intentionally named after them) and I love the association.

I can remember, though, when I was a little girl I battled to spell my middle name. I also had a teacher at about that time who insisted my name was Eliane (not a good thing when you're still learning to spell it!). As many others have complained about, I too could never find my name on any personalised items. :)

Positives about my name are that I hardly ever have to spell it and it is rarely pronounced wrong (which is good considering the opposite is true of my lastname). Also, growing up I was the only Elaine in my school and at varsity, which I loved. I have met a few Elaine's over the years (all older than me), so I love that my name is rare but not unknown.
