I have been planning for years to name one of my children Alex although a friend of mine went and named her first born Alex!! I insist on still using the name just thought spelling it different would make me feel better! What do you think? Alix????? Does it look right and sound right to you? Boyish or Girlish?? If you have any other ways to spell I open to new ideas!!! :)

Just name your baby Alex and spell it Alex. The other way doesn't look right and will cause spelling problems in the future. Remember: this child will have the name forever---after he moves out of your house and has his own life. What your friend named her baby will NOT even be a blip on the screen to you or your son.

It doesn't matter whether or not you use a cre8tive spelling or not, the name is the same. When kids are in school it's the sound of the name that counts. My daughter is friends with Christina T and Krystina L. My other daughter had Nicky S (boy) and Nikki J (girl) in her class. She also had Kate J and Cait C in her class two years ago.

About Alix though - I think it does look more feminine.

I think just using Alex would by fine.
You can always use the longer form and have Alex be the name he/she goes by:

Girls:

Alexandra
Alexa
Alexandria
Alexis

Boys:
Alexander
Alec

HTH
Donna
mom to Alexandra,Samatha & Gabriella
