Does it sound just like Sydney, or is there an extra syllable in there? If so, which syllable is accented? SID-oh-nee? Sid-OH-nee? Sid-oh-NEE? It's a pretty looking name, but I don't love "Sydney".

I would say it's pronounced the same as Sydney unless it's pronounced the French way- see doe knee. I don't like the name at all, but that's just my opinion.

It's my friend's sister's name- she pronounces it "Sid-ON-nee."

You're meaning "on" like "turn ON the light" then? With a short "o" not a long "o"? I hadn't thought of it that way before.

I saw a show on the Travel Channel a long time ago, where a bartender's name was Sidonie. She pronounced it "sid-OH-nee."

Well, I guess to that I would just say that #1) I will be her teacher since we homeschool so I won't have a problem pronouncing it, lol and #2) Once friends learn the pronunciation there wouldn't be a problem after that (with that person). We have a daughter named Hanne -- pronounced Hannah -- and it's not been that difficult to tell people the pronunciation when they just SEE her name. More often we have to spell it if somebody is writing it down, because we SAY "Hannah".

i read a book called "the blue flower" and a female character was named sidonie..pronounced si-doh-nee, accent in the middle. i liked it and thought of it as a girl name for myself. in the book it said it was old french for "wild flower" but i don't know if that is true or just the author's idea.
it's different and interesting but not too much so...keep it.
