How to jumpstart labour?

Hi there! I am 3 days overdue and am wondering if anyone has any ideas on how to jumpstart my labour? I only have my mom here with me for 10 more days so it would be great to get things going. I know the baby decides when to come and there isn't much to do but stay busy but thought I might ask for some tips anyways. My husband and I are being more 'active' to get it going (I heard that works) and I have learned of a few acupuncture points to push but nothing as of yet...

We are also still sitting around contemplating boys names. We were told girl three times and then maybe boy only a month ago so we are struggling a bit with the boy's name. We have our list ready and plan to decide when we meet the baby. Our top choices so far are:
Milo Andrew
London Andrew
Jaden Andrew
Jules Andrew

So, we will just have to see...looking forward to your tips and feedback!

Thanks,
Carey

Hey There,

Two words for you... Castor Oil. Only use this if you are desperate though. :o) My son was 6 days past due and I couldn't take it anymore, I was afraid he would get too big. I went online and researched exactly how much to take and made it with a rootbeer float. Not to get too grafic but you shouldn't leave the house if you do decide to go this route. It causes severe diarrhea and some vomiting. Not pretty but it works if you are ready and have been dilated and somewhat "ripe". I would ask your midwife or doctor first before trying this though. Good luck.

Ummm. Mexican & Thai foods, my favorite! Sorry I don't have any suggestions, this will be my first.

Not sure if you were looking for opinions on this, but of the boys' names you listed, I prefer Milo Andrew & Jules Andrew.

I can see how you'd want to have the baby while your mother is around, but don't worry too much...I was 16 days late when born and weighed 8lbs 1oz... I wasn't too, horribly big! My mom was in labor for only a couple of hours, she said it was an easy delivery!

Good luck, you're almost there!

3/4 of my babies were post-due (#1 was 18 days late, #3 was 8 days late, #4 was 10 days late!). Baby #2 was 1 day early!

These are some of the tactics we've tried:
-Spicy foods
-Watercress (a green leafy vegetable) - cut it up & mix it into a salad.
-Nipple stimulation (go easy - if this works it can cause strong contractions I've heard)
-Spousal "activity" as you put it
-Physical activity - a brisk walk
-Drinking castor oil - DON'T DO THIS, IT'LL ONLY MAKE YOU SICK

I'd start out w/ a spicy Mexican meal followed by an evening salad made partially of watercress. Go for a walk that day too.

Good luck!

Since I haven't seen it mentioned, I can tell you one surefire way (at least according to my midwives ... it's how they naturally induce labor instead of using Pitocin). Take 6 capsules of Red Raspberry Combo (can be purchased at most healthfood stores) every hour until labor begins. Usually doesn't take very long at all.
