How old are these people?
| Wed, 07-25-2007 - 6:14pm |
I grew up with a hugely popular name, but one that was already out of date when my parents gave it to me. Now I think 2 of my 3 kids also have out-of-date names. So out of curiosity- can you assign ages to the names below? It's just an experiment. Thanks!
Barbara
Miles
Claire
Walter
Sophia
Linda
Isabella
Caden
Aidan
Scott
Pamela
Chad
Whitney
Hugh
Maureen

Here they are. It's interesting that everyone thinks Pamela is older than Linda. Linda was a popular baby boom name (1945-1965) but Pamela hit it's peak in the 1970's. Anyway:
Barbara, 70
Miles, 6 This is my son.
Claire, 18
Walter, 42
Sophia, 6
Linda, 37
Isabella, 2
Caden, 4
Aidan, 7
Scott, 29
Pamela, 4 This is my daughter (named after a relative)
Chad, 38
Whitney, 41
Hugh, 2 This is my son.
Maureen, 34
So my ds Miles is the only one with a fashionable name. But I get lots of comments on Pamela from people who would like it to come back. But after growing up around a zillion Linda's, I'm glad she'll never be "Pam S." in school. People try to be different, you know, and right now Pamela is in a small day camp with 9 other kids: 2 of whom are named "Juliana."

Not sure if I'm going to do this how you wanted but here are the ages I would expect someone with these names to be. Names in ALL CAPS are names I like:
Barbara - late 50's (babyboomer name)
MILES - 80/90's
Claire - toddlers (this name I would assume runs the gamut, but Idon't know of any older Claires)
Walter - 70's
SOPHIA - runs the gamut - newborns to 90's
Linda - Late 50's (babyboomer name)
ISABELLA - runs the gamut - newborns to 90's
Caden - babies/toddlers
Aidan - babies/toddlers
Scott - 30/40's
Pamela - late 40's
Chad - 30's on down
Whitney - 30's for sure! (such an 80's name)
Hugh - don't know any or of any besides Hugh Grant, so not sure.
Maureen - 40ish
Funny about Julianna. My daughter was in a camp group recently with about 12 kids, ages 3-5. There were 2 Isabellas, 1 Isabelle, 1 Ella, 1 Ellie (nn for Elizabeth). It was confusing to say the least.
Interesting! I like this! :-)
Here are my responses:
Barbara ~40+. Most Barbara's I know are in their mid-50s, but there's probably some younger than 50 and a few over as well.
Miles ~3 or 5. Also mid-thirties. 50+. 85.
Claire ~5. 32+
Walter ~35+
Sophia ~birth to 7 years. 40s, 50s, 60s
Linda ~mid-thirties, some 40s
Isabella ~birth to 9 years.
Caden ~birth to 5 years.
Aidan ~2-7
Scott ~just about any age, but not many newborns with this name.
Pamela ~late thirties, early 40s
Chad ~20s
Whitney ~mid twenties, early thirties
Hugh ~90
Maureen ~40s-50s, some 60s. a few late twenties.
*note: I'm going by people I have been in contact with in my lifetime with these names.
Yes, Isabella is huge around here too. And you cannot hit the playground without encountering 2 or 3 Sophia's or Sofia's. I like Isabel and Sophie better. But people choose such elaborate girls' names these days that I enjoy introducing my 4-year-old as Pam. It's so simple.
