How popular is Isabel/Isabella?

Since this board seems to be my only sounding board on names (Dh gets so tired of me worrying about dd name since we still have 10.5 weeks until she is born, plenty of time to decide in his mind) I have another question. How popular is Isabel/Isabella right now? I am in California and I know of a few 3 year old Isabel/a's but I'm not sure about babies now. Also, my paper must have changed the birth announcement day because there haven't been any in the paper in weeks.

TIA

From what I've seen, it seems like these names are VERY popular... regardless, I think they are also very beautiful...

Isabella is super popular right now. Last year it was the #6 name for all girls born in the U.S. Check out: http://www.ssa.gov/OACT/babynames/

The Social Security Administration publishes the top 1000 names for every year going back to the beginning of last century.

VERY popular, especially if you consider all the different spellings. Also from the SSA site, here are last year's rankings:

Isabella 6
Isabel 89
Isabelle 96
Izabella 377
Isabela 533
Isabell 897

With Isabella in the top ten and Isabel and Isabelle also in the top 100, not to mention the other -bel/belle/bella names currently popular, this one would feel even more popular than the numbers indicate, if you KWIM.

Also, Isabella actually ranked number FOUR last year for the state of California, with Isabel at 59, so even more popular in your state than nationwide. Of course that may depend on your specific area, but just some numbers to be aware of.

HTH ;)

WAY WAY POPULAR! Especially considering all of the varations. There are so many different variations as well. I know lots of babies with this name. One of my closest friends DD, my Doctor's DD, not to mention other neighborhood babies being born.

I am so glad I didn't name DD Isabella Kay like I had picked out when I was preggo with #3 (he was a boy). But I did use if for my 4th born as her middle name. I wanted a spanish name for DD because she is half Mexican and Isabella was my favorite. Which I have since found out that the spanish spellign would have been Isabela, but oh well.

Thanks everyone.

I just wish that the majority of names that we liked weren't so darn popular. Even when we count in nicknames, they are just WAY too popular.

I find it so weird that considering this name's mega popularity, I don't know a SINGLE one (of any of the variations). I know one Bella, but I don't think it's short for anything. Crazy, huh?
