By way of comparison, if this helps: Axel (our 2mo's name) is #287 on the SSA list -- how many little Axels do you know running around? Not many, huh? And Cash is less popular than this.
I don't know any little boys named Cash. I had this on our list but dh said "No" (and he likes Johnny Cash, too!). I think it's a handsome name -- I agree with others; I like it much more than Clayte. To me, Clayte sounds like you're trying to say Clayton but are just stopping halfway to the end.

See there? Family significance is huge to me, so bring it on! Lol. Clayte's definitely NMS, but it's not horrible either; my dad's name is Marvin Earl -- he didn't give me much to work with, eh? Those ARE horrible for a little guy in this day. I can't bring myself to use either and I feel bad about that, but not bad enough to use one.
BTW, I know what you mean about not many people liking the name and just going with your gut -- when I brought the name Axel up here before he was born, I heard several "icks" too (in addition to many "I like it" comments as well), but dh and I really liked it.
Enjoy!

I actually like both Clayte and Cash.
Noooo!!! I am so mad!! I picked out my top choice girl name when I was in college - EIGHT years ago when these names weren't on the radar and now they're both in the top ten (Isabelle Sophia). Fine, Sophia's only like #8 and I was a Jennifer after all. No big whoop.
However! I used your handy zip code thing and Sophia moves to the #3 spot where we live in Chicago. THEN I put in the suburb where we'll eventually move and Sophia is NUMBER ONE. And Isabelle is #2!!!
Crap. Well there goes Sophia Isabelle or Isabelle Sophia.
:(
Oh well, I'm kind of getting into Daphne. I hope I don't get on the computer January 1st with a 3-week old daughter in my lap and find out Daphne has shot to the top for '08.
PS- I don't know anyone named Cash, but I like it better than Clayte!

Read about my mommin' in Chicago!
I don't know any Cash's, but my husband really pushed for it to be our son's middle name. Well I ended up vetoing it, but I really don't think it's a bad name...it's just nms.
The more I think about Clayte, the more I kind of like it. My late brother's name is Clay, so it reminds me of him :-)
I anxious to know which one you will pick!
