I have heard this pronounced a bunch of different ways and was wondering what the most accepted/common way was.

Lee-nuh
Ley-nuh
Len-uh

Let me know if I'm forgetting any.

I've heard it pronounced Lee-nuh and Lay-nuh but prefer Lay-nuh, its very pretty. I know a girl called Elena and she pronounces it Uh-lay-nuh, with Lay-nuh for short.

This was my great-grandmother's name, and was pronounced Lee-nuh. I think there are variations used in many different cultures, so maybe that's where the differing pronunciations come from?

I have known several over the years - the name is meant to be with a long E

Lee-nuh

I can see where people would think other things are possible though.

if it concerns you - alter the spelling to make it sound like you want.

If you want Lee-nuh and are afraid Lena isn't sufficient, do Leena

if you want Lay-nuh - do Laina or Layna

if you want Len-ah (yuck), you don't want that - then you'd need Lennah. - like Jenna, but add the h.

good luck

Ha thanks, yeah we definitely wouldn't want Len-ah. I'm pretty sure I prefer the pronunciation Lay-nuh but Lee-nuh is growing on me. Who knows. I liked the spelling Laina and I've loved the name, but peoples opinions are tainting it for me, saying it is insubstantial and too much of a nick name (I know, its my baby but I dont want her to have a name she hates). This is frustrating!

I've only heard of Lee-nuh or Lee-na. That's the same pronunciation, I just typed it out differently. I believe it is a swedish or norwegian name. I'm from MN originally and there are a bunch of jokes called "Ole and Lena" jokes, (ole is pronounced Oh-lee), and are known for being Scandinavian jokes. :) Lena is a very pretty name. :)
