Dh and I have decided on a name for our daughter due in June, but we cant decide on a spelling. Please tell me which one you like and why. Kaitlyn or Kaytlin? Her middle name will be Edyth.
Thanks,
Kacie

I would go w/ Kaitlyn b/c it's more familiar. Kaytlin will be spelt wrong a lot and ppl may assume it's a typo when they read it.

I would choose Kaitlyn. Kaytlin just looks like a typo to me.

Short of Caitlin, which I actually prefer (read on LOL), I'd stick with Kaitlyn. My dh also preferred the K spellings because he wanted to give our oldest dd the same initials as mine, and Kaitlyn is the most common spelling in the US (and therefore the most commonly assumed, if you KWIM).

In other words, something like "Kaytlin" won't make the name itself any less popular, but it will be more of a hassle. And to be honest, if I may, it doesn't look nearly as attractive. Like others said, it just kind of comes across as a typo. Like someone wasn't sure how to spell the name and just took a stab at it.

Does Edyth have a special meaning for you, btw? Love the name, though I prefer the Edith spelling (especially with Kaitlyn/Kaytlin). It's hard to explain, but having a Y in both the fn and mn tends to look a bit off generally. If Edyth is a family name, however, by all means use that spelling. Just an observation. ;)

HTH

I like Kaitlyn or Caitlin. And though I love Edith, Edyth doesn't do much for me.

Caitlin Edith
Kaitlyn Edith

Either is nice.

Between the two, definitely Kaitlyn. Kaytlin is pretty bad. Have you considered Caitlin though?

As for the mn, is there a reason you are spelling Edith with a y??? Just wondering as it looks much better spelt Edith.

Edyth with a y is a family spelling. DH's grandma. We give all of our kids family middle names. Our oldest is Bethany Rae(rae after me, my dad, and DH's mother), Brynlee Mary Ashley (Mary after my mom and grandma) and Ashley because we liked it, and Edyth after DH's grandma) The reason we are picking the spellings for Kaitlyn that we did is because I wanted a K like me and both of our other girls have y's in their fn, so I wanted to do that again. Thanks for the help with spelling, btw.

out of those spellings I'd pick Kaitlyn. I prefer Edith spelled normally too sorry.

I would spell it Kaitlyn myself; she's less likely to have to spell it for people that way, which I think would get very old very fast. "Kre8tiv" spellings are nms, so I would spell the middle name "Edith" as well.

I love seeing it spelled Kaitlyn. I think it's so much nicer.
