How to spell this name

I heard a name that I love but I have no idea how it should be spelled.

It sounds like EMMA (the girls name) - LEAN (as in lean meat)

How would you spell that? Emaline (or does that rhyme with spine?), Emmaleen (not a real pretty spelling), Emalene ? Any suggestions on how to best spell this name?

I've seen it spelled Emeline, and Emmaline.

I LOVE this name! I have also seen it spelt the two ways said before- Emeline and Emmaline. I think I like Emmaline better.

I have to say that the ONLY way I would pronounce it correctly would be to the spelling of Emalene or Emmalene. Emaline or the other variations I would DEFEINATELY think of as being "Emma Line" and I think you would CONSTANTLY be correcting people. Plus, since it's an uncommon name, it's not like people ASSUME it is spelled a certain way. I have an Emma myself and I think Emaline is very pretty.

I've seen both Emmaline & Emmeline. I prefer Emmeline myself, it just looks better to me (since the pronunciation is the same for either spelling). I've never, ever heard Emmeline (or Emmaline) pronounced any other way than emma-leen. (and you can find the proper pronunciation at www.behindthename.com just type Emmeline into the search box.)

Hi Amy-

I've seen two spellings for this name, Emmaline and Emmeline. It's a gorgeous name. I don't know whether this will be a put-off or an encouragement- there's a (very) minor character in the 5th and 6th Harry Potter books with the name. Emmeline Vance is on the good side, though!

I agree that emmaline is a prettier spelling than emmaleen. But unaware pronouncers would say emmaline as in spine. I think Emmalene is the best choice. Good Luck!!!
